Default Game crashing

When I play guildwars, every so often the game just instantly closes and I get the 'help us by sending error report to arenanet' message. In this message it says that it couldn't access some memory thing.

I've also had it just completely freeze, and for some reason my mouse cursor turned back into my normal windows one (as opposed to the guildwars one). When this happens I just have to restart. Sometimes, incidentally, my screen just goes blue and it restarts.

I thought this might have been because of inadequate cooling, but even when I took the side off my computer, stuck a fan blowing air into it and opened both my windows (my room was freezing!), it still crashed.

After the crash where it made my computer restart, and after windows had sent an error message to microsoft, it opened a web page saying that a driver had caused the error. I thought this might have been because of my graphics card driver.

What I've done: Reinstalled Guildwars, updated graphics card drivers, defragged hard drive, run adware & virus checks.

Please help.

I have:

Intel Pentium 4 3.00 GHz S478 Prescott 800 FSB
1024MB RAM (I'm not sure what sort. Hopefully you can tell from the dxdiag)
ATI Radeon 9600 XT

I thought I had, but the downloaded program thinks it's something else... maybe ATI has the links messed up. Anywhere else I can download it?

Edit: I downloaded it from http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/GRA...ivers-57.shtml
However, it still says, on help/about 'Version 1.2.2006.286'. Hmm.

we are using this download page
http://www.techpowerup.com/softmod/downloads.php

because of soft-modding 9500->9700, but there is a link to original drivers on this page also

btw read this, using drivercleaner may be essential

Thanks a LOT. I'm just downloading the drivers and the driver cleaner now; I'll come back and say so if it works.

You've (hopefully) just made my game playable!

by the way, are you a siamese twin?

Edit: Damnation. I did what you said; got the softmodded drivers and did the clean driver thing, but I still got the blue screen. I'm downloading the original catalyst thing from the page you gave me.

I downloaded the original 5.7 catalyst like I said I was, and just got the instant closure with error reporting to arenanet crash again.

I also tried downloading the 5.5 drivers, but it still crashes.

This problem sounds familiar to me

Always get the same error things where I have to send a bug report to arenanet

I got a Intel Pentium 4, 3.40 ghz. 2 cpu, 1024 ram and a nvidia geforce FX 5700LE 256 mb videocard, I know the videocard sucks, and I think the problem is the videocard because sometimes I get a different error report about my videocard crashing.

Got latest videocard drivers, are there any other guys using this videocard that have the same problems or they don't have any GW problems with this card?

This is really, really annoying me now. I'll probably format my hard drive and start over.

Anti-Aliasing removes the "jaggies" from contour lines. It makes everything feel/seem/look to mesh better.

Guild Wars handles Anti-Aliasing in the worst possible way. My 6800GT OC would freeze whenever I put AA on in game options. I decided to leave it off In game and control it via the driver. I have it set to 8x...guild wars has no problems..no more freezes and everything looks pretty.

short: turn AA off in game options and use your cards driver to control AA

To Bill, I heard more people having the error problems, everybody found out it's the videocard overheating. I got 1 side of my pc off now (so the the heat can go more ways), and allmost now errors and crashing anymore

Maybe I'll buy a better cooler in a while, till now, my pc is just looking awefull but atleast I can play GW

heh, the side's been off my pc for the last week. and I had a fan blowing at the video card. and I had both my windows wide open.

though even so, I guess I wouldn't be surprised. apart from the cpu fan and the little fan on the card itself, I've only got one crappy 80mm serving the whole system. if I had a bit more cash, I'd buy a water cooling system. alas.

though, it still crashes even with the lowest graphics settings imaginable and a puny 1024 x 800 resolution.

Edit: maybe I'll just get one of those PCI slot fans that cool whatever component is right next to it... like this http://www.dabs.com/uk/Search2/Produ...C I%20cooling

Hell, I've done everything, and it still crashes. My system must be completely f*cked. Ah well, I've salvaged an old 20GB hard drive from an old computer and I'm gonna transfer all my important stuff onto it and format my hard drive.

If this doesn't work, I will be SO angry.

Still, if anyone has any suggestions, I would be happy to try it.

I don't get it... The comp i use is a centrino M processor with some graphics card I don't know and is like 1.2 ghz or something and mine works fine... except some total lag sometimes...

Did you guys, by any chance build your own computer?

Bill have you tried other methods posted on other threads concering problems with GW.

Other people have posted that they fixed their problem by going back to older video card drivers for their 9xxx series vidoe cards.... like 4.11.

I am convinced this problem is an Arena/ATI softeware problem. Somebody must have slipped on their coding somewhere.

Since you're looking for all possible suggestions, I run the packaging driver for my 9*** ATI: 8.033-040710a-016685C. Never had issues at all. I run an old Celeron 1.99 Ghz.

My, I am happy! I've fixed the problem without a full reboot.

I simply decided to try and reinstall windows; I just stuck the windows xp cd in, chose full installation, and let it do its job. I needed by product key and some drivers for my SATA hard drive which was on a floppy disc. None of my documents or installed applications were affected!

Joy!
