Default Clicking kills pc's?

A friend of mine bought the game recently. His computer is rather excellent, and the game runs beautifully on maximal graphics. But whenever he tries selling items, trading or switching weapons, the pc crashes. Dragging around items in his inventory also sends the system crashing around his ears. I've tried putting his settings on lowest and all that, but the problem persists. I think it may be that when you pick up items, or sell them, or move them around that GW sends more information than usually to ANeT and that his firewall/Norton blocks it. But on the other hand, why does it reset his pc? Norton closes programs if they're considered dangerous, but doesn't push reset buttons. Is there a way double-clicking, or clicking and dragging is linked to a hidden reset button? It's so weird... I've checked the system stats against the requirements and they're all above par.

I've never heard of a game doing this...I don't think it would be Norton blocking your outgoing traffic since you have an open port to anet. I'm asuming that you have tried reinstalling the game off of a different source then the original install. Off of the web instead of CD or vise versa. Hey Dex help me out with this one.

I've heard of people having problems similar to this, and in all cases it was an issue with their video driver. What kind of video hardware does your friend have?

If he's rebooting he's probably getting a STOP error in Windows (hardware issues that Windows can't handle and resume from). Have him go into system properties, the Advanced tab, then click the Settings button under Startup and Recovery. Un-check the box that says 'automatically restart' and click 'OK'.

Run Guild Wars and make the problem happen again. You should get a blue screen of death that allows you to see the STOP error. Does it look like this:

Quote:
Check to be sure you have adequate disk space. If a driver is identified in the Stop message, disable the driver or check with the manufacturer for driver updates. Try changing video adapters.

Check with your hardware vendor for any BIOS updates. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use Safe Mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced Start Up Options, and then select Safe Mode.

Contact your system administrator or technical support group for further assistance.
If so, he's probably having a known problem with his video driver. Try updating the video drivers first. If that doesn't work there may be another solution. Here's a link to a solution to the problem for people with Intel graphics chipsets:

If he doesn't have an Intel chipset there may be another driver/DirectX problem. Let us know what you find out.

This is, down to the last letter, exactly what happens. So... now what?

Just to be clear, what kind of video hardware does he have? Is it an Intel Extreme Graphics adapter?
