ok this is what i have in my computer

P4 3.2Ghz processor
Nvidia 6600 256mb video card
1GB of Ram
2 80mm fans
1 120mm fan

Everytime i use my computer its fine no locking up but when i play gw after a little while my coputer will just lock up and nothing can help but turning it off from the power supply not even ctrl alt del will work.
Now if i put a house fan infront of my computer it works just fine and does not lock up. could anyone give me and sudgestions on who to make my computer stop locking up when im playing guildwars with normal computer stuff i hate haveing this fan under my feet lol

get a fullcopper CPU heatsink, preferably with heatpipes, and a big fan blowing onto it, also make sure there are more fans blowing into the case than out of it.

first the obvious.

since you mention the fan is by your feet instead of on the table/desk it is on the floor probably under and in a relativelt enclosed area.

do you have several inches clearance on all sides and the back of it?

secondly have you checked for dust bunnies in the fan/heatsink which can cut cooling power drastically?

if yes to the above one of the easiest and cheapest ways is to purchase a higher performance 120 fan (assuming that is the exhaust fan in the back of the case) along with a fan speed controller so you can control the speed (and noise) of the new fan

THE CPU IS THE PROCESSOR SO THE CPU/PROCESSOR FAN ARE THE SAME THING BY A DIFFERENT NAME

yes the fan RotteN showed you would have to be installed where the current p4 heatsink is, if ur current heatsink is stock then most likely it is not intended for heavy work loads such as running games.

WRONG

every pc comes with a heatsink/fan intended to let that combo opperate at its full capacity whatever that capacity is.

so your telling me that a zalman heatsink or thermaltake heatsink wont outperform your standard heatsink that comes with your cpu?

get your facts straight,

i never stated that the stock was equal to or better than the aftermarket pieces.

i am currently using both a gigabyte heat pipe unit and an old OCZ Goliath (separate pc) because i wanted it cooler than stock.

what i said was that the stock heatsink/fan was rated for 100% capacity of that pc under normal room temperatures.

i did not say it was superior to the suggested unit just that the stock unit will let the pc run at full capacity including gaming.

sorry but your wrong i know that i can overclock my mothter board to a 4.8 and i know that the stock fan on it now would not beable to hold the heat off

you will notice that i made no mention of abnormal conditions such as overclocking?

we are discussinf STOCK setups and OC is not stock in my book.

and by capacity i was refering to whatever it came as not what you could push it to be.

hope that clears up what i meant by capacity.

besides water cooling is better for OC if you are serious.

Maximum pc magazine just did a complete heatsink roundup a month ago so you could check it at the library.

only the top units for max cooling.

if the ventalation is good through the case it helps a lot.

if it has a small 80mm fan for exhausting the case you can get an 80mm/120mm adapter and mount that on the outside of the case back and reverse the fan so it sucks out the air instead of pushing it out.

using one of the 100+CFM 120 fans will vent anything.

the fan speed controller is so you dont have it going full speed all the time which is as loud as a small shop vac (almost)

Ok, I was worried about the same thing when I build my pc and mines not even as much as a powerhouse as yours (unfortunately). I have 6 fans on the case to move air and then your usual heatsink fan and g-card fan. What I did was have a fan at the top and back blowing air out and 2 fans on the side blowing air in. The other two fans are at the bottom to circulate the air. Also, I took a hole-saw and opened up the fan holes to just one big hole. That little bit of modification helped dramaticly.

Also, you know that goop they say to spread around on your processor before placing the heatsink on? Well that actually VOIDS THE PROCESSOR WARRANTY in most cases. There is an alternative though. Try getting a sample from these guys. http://www.bergquistcompany.com/tm_h...cfm?oid=112149 I got some of this same stuff and I found that my CPU temp dropped by about 20°F from its normal operating temperature. Idle, it's runs at about 80°, and when under a load, it runs at about 95-100°.

What are you using to cool your PC?, 4.8g(P4?), if your overclocking to that level on air then I don't believe you.(show me pics), you might get 4.8 on phase change, vapourchill or liquid nitro, water most probably wouldn't go that high.
