Default Mouse Issues

Ingame, whenever I click on the right mouse button (to be able to drag/rotate camera), it sends my camera spinning to a different angle unless the cursor is directly on my character's head.
Also, when I make any dragging movements to rotate the camera with the right mouse button, the slightest touch is more than enough, and a larger drag rotates it several times.

I had a hunch that perhaps my mouse is just not reacting well in fullscreen games, so I went into an old game I used to play (Rune: Halls of Valhalla) and just at the menu I had little control over my cursor. The slightest movement would either barely move it, or send it across the screen (it took me 5 minutes to get to the 'exit' button ).

It is really starting to annoy me, I was wondering if anybody could give any insight (and perhaps a solution ).

Edit: I use an optical/lazer HP mouse.

I have had problems like this before, it was all because of a peice of hair under my laser. Then again I doubt this could be your case. Maby try cleaning the laser and check for hair or dust on it. Are you using a mouse pad? Did you try new drivers? If you have another mouse try it and see if it does the same.

I have a black mouse pad, yes, the colour of my desk is not easily registered by my mouse. I keep the pad clean as best I can (though I sometimes get a couple crumbs on it from my cheese and cracker fetish ).

Once in a while the whole thing fixes itself, but then it screws up again a minute later.
Giving a quick visual inspection, I can't see any hairs or anything under the laser... and the mousepad is currently very clean.

My friend has had this problem, but he just sent his mouse back to the computer place and got a new one.

How long did that take?

And I am unsure if they would accept my mouse... there are smudged areas where my index finger and middle finger rest I've used it so much
