Default Fire wall problems

I just updated norton, and now the firewall keeps me from playing the game. When I go to play it it just sits there saying "Connecting to Arenanet...". And the only way I can get on is by turning off my firewall, but I don't wish to have to do this every time i go to play guild wars. So can anyone tell me how to configure my firewall setings?

Also I usually ignore updates for long periods of time, so the update that did this probly isn't exactly a new one.

This is ALWAYS a problem with Norton In my experience. Maunly because after every update GW makes, it has a new connection forged. I tried enabling the port, but it didn't work.

What SHOULD happen is that you should get a message allowing you to permit/block the connection. Use "permit" and "always use this action".

You'll have to do this every time GW updates.

Yeah, that's what usually happens, but now the little message only will pop up the first time I try running the game. And even then it doesn't work. It's weird.

I have to do the same thing with zonealarm. Everytime Guild wars updates i get the popup. A little anoying but worth the extra time it takes to click allow. Never turn off you firewall you could be hacked in a matter of seconds. Its not worth it . Just put up with the inconvence of having to set the permisions each time. I do and oi l0.ove the game.

I do set the allowences each time. But the problem is now, that even when I do, nothing happens the game will not start what so ever. Close the firewall, it works fine.

I use sysgate personal firewall and also have the same pop-up that the program has changes (which is what it's suppose to do ) do you wish to allow, etc.

It sounds like somewhere along the line it was "blocked" and remembered the settings. Is there any way to remove all the setting you have trained so far (You usually get to respond yes (one time), yes (all the time) no (all the time), no (just this once) with firewalls) and starting from scratch with the fire wall rules?

I don't think there is, at least I haven't been able to figure out how. And I mean it does still ask me if I want to let it have acess, and I say yes but it just sits there and doens't do anything. I'm pretty sure I never clicked no, I'm usually pretty carefull about this stuff.

mine always asks if I want to allow it when there is a new update. Which I aways click "Yes" to allow. But this past update, it will not let me connect even with norton turned off.

May want to give this a try:

To reset the firewall rules for Internet-enabled programs

1. Start Norton Internet Security or Norton Personal Firewall.
2. In the main program window, double-click Personal Firewall.
3. On the Programs tab, make sure that Turn on Automatic Program Control is checked.
4. Click the first item in the Manual Program Control list.
5. On your keyboard, press Ctrl+A to select all of the program rules.
6. Click Remove.
If you see a warning message, click Yes to remove the rules.
7. Click OK to close the Program Control window.
8. Run LiveUpdate, and download all available updates.
For details on how to run LiveUpdate, see the document How to run LiveUpdate.
9. Run a Program Scan to re-create your program rules list.
For details on how to run a program scan, read the document Scanning for Internet-enabled programs in Norton Internet Security or Norton Personal Firewall.
