Have updated it to latest forceware drivers 81.98, tried omega drivers, older driver, newer driver, latest Leadtek drivers 77.77

Mentioned a bit of these gyrations in earlier post on 12/29 in this thread.

Have not tried reseating the gfx card - good thought.

Pegasux has another thread and claims to have a 6200 ... what drivers you using? GW stable?

Will try with PSU update and Virtual memory increase on Saturday. Thanks!

Some folks say reinstall windows ... have not done that yet. thoughts?

meh. Most likely wont solve your problem....i'd go with reseating first and se how that flows...

also run a virus scan. Something or someone could be eating away at your memory...

which brings me to my other thought...

go to google.com and download Spyware Doctor. You need a serial # so head over to www.serials.ws and get one from there. Run it.

I had a problem where i had some spyware and most of my CPU usage was from some spyware process that was like a DP of 60% on my virtual memory or something like that.....

I'm using 7.1.2.5 rev and haven't had a problem. This is my secondary system and use it more for work then gaming though. Probably only played gw on there for about 40 hours or so.

Well - checked my virtual memory and I had updated it to 4GB per tech support (not two as I had thought). so no further changes there.

Did reseat the card ... hohum ... guildwars bombed in less than 5 minutes.

Ran virus scans, spyware doctor, ad-aware, Spybot S&D. no change.

removed a hard drive (down to two), but did not get to PSU swap out. But, Asus probe shows PSU with steady output. with one less HD - can't believe I need ot go to the trouble. Anyway - no change. Crash as soon as I exit ascalon and start running a bit. So, moved all Graphics settings to low, still no change ... C0000005 crash in minutes.

Pegasux - THANKS for the reply - will try it. If I can get 40 hours I would celebrate. In any case, it removes a variable from the equation. Who is the make of your card?

Still trying ....

i had memory exceptions with a specific build in november - not able to play for time that build was out. (well i used my laptop for the time)

went fine after the next update till a few days ago gw started to lock up my whole system - only reset or on/off can solve the freeze.
first i got the usual client crash dialog and reported the details to anet. was about a scripting error in a cpp file - then i had a few memory exceptions and now, finally, i get this total lockup.

i tried changing my drivers for the 6600gt. been using the 71.89 without any problems so far, but tried the 81.98 from december - still the same lockups.
i tortured my memory for 12 hours with prime95 - nothing. then i toyed around with my virtual memory, still nothing. virus and bot checks all negative...

for staying in contact with the guild i use my laptop - everything is working there --- but it bugs me that i can't play on my primary pc anymore.

system_specs:
amd barton 2.2 ghz (200x11)
2x512 mb corsair twins @200 mhz
leadtek 6600gt agp
asus n8xe deluxe nforce2 400 ultra mainboard
xp pro sp2 with all updates

The card is from Chaintech. I just got the cheapie card since this isn't my primary gaming rig. Kleetes have you tried moving the paging file to the other drive (non system drive)? If not give that a shot, and 4GB for a paging file is not necessary at all...their tech support is for better lack of a term, STUPID! Before you reinstall your OS run this command in a command window. Make sure you have you OS CD though.

sfc /scannow

downloaded 7.1.2.5 from guru3d. They won't install ... I'm cursed. these look like beta drivers ... though the forum says they're WHQL .. are these modified? anyway trying 71.80 from the same site.

Good thought running sfc used to run it from win98 all the time ... didn't know it was availble in winXP. Will post results soon

changed the page file (same as virtual memory correct?) to the other drive and set page file on C drive to "none". restarted computer. Defragged C drive. Ran sfc ... nothing reported. Ran GW. Interesting new crash after 5 minutes (see below). restarted game because I'm a glutton for punishment and actually played for 20 minutes!! then crashed with C0000005. ARG! Check the new error below ... (BTW have not changed drivers ... still on 81.95.)

-----------------------
*--> Crash <--*
Assertion:
P:\Code\Base\rtl/IdMgr.h(72)
App: Gw.exe
ProgramId: 1
Build: 14588
When: 1/11/2006 21:53:01
Flags: 0

Perhaps I need to search forums for this one or send it in. During send to GW bounced quickly to desktop .. not sure it sent.

I installed the driver from the driver CD i got from chaintech. Try this link
http://www.chaintechusa.com/tw/eng/D...te.asp?DCSNo=5
weird error...I've never seen this one before. At least your not getting the memory exception error any longer. I really hate to say this but try to reinstall the game now but after you uninstall wipe out any residual GW directories in your program files folder. Also go into your registry and delete anything you see that says guild wars and gw.exe. Just do a search in there. BACKUP YOUR REGISTRY FIRST though. Also empty out your temp directory. Then reinstall in a different directory just in case. If this doesn't change/fix your error code them I'm stumped.

A couple of random things to try if you haven't done so already:

1) check the heatsink on the graphics card -- is it properly seated? Any thermal goo filling the spaces properly?

2) How are your PC's memory timings? Are they very agressive, or set to safe/defaults? I've had issues with slower memory timings causing problems with faster spec'd corsair memory... speeding it up fixed it.

3) use netstat -a from the command prompt. Are there any open ports you don't recognize? Google for the port numbers listed. This is a good way to detect spyware, even if not recognized by your present antiviral software.

4) If you have a power hungry Nvidia or ATI video card, the PSU's output may not be sufficient. I have a temp/volt meter faceplate on my PC, and it beeps with every power-sag low enough to cause possible errors. This is what tipped me off that my PSU was insufficient. I upgraded it to a 480w, and all is fine now.

I had a similar problem as the one originally posted here. I tried fiddling wth nearly every setting i could click my mouse on, i bought a new video card and CPU fan... nothing worked. then i tried fiddling with settings that are impossible to click a mouse on. I rebooted and entered my PC's BIOS. my first assumption that my computer was running too slowly led to upping a few settings and overclocking a bit, but that made the crashes more frequent. taking all my BIOS's settings down to the "low defaults" stopped all problems. Before anyone here just takes my word for it and runs to screw with their BIOS, I recommend that you only do it if you have a decent knowledge with a computers workings, and having built a computer or two from components doesn't hurt. If you feel even slightly uncomfortable fiddling with (and possibly destroying) your computer's main functions, ask a friend/family member/neighbor/anyone you know who's a geek and not a practical joker to help you out.

Pshhh at least you guys got atleast 15-30 mins of gameplay back a couple months ago the game would just exit by itself with no error message within like 10 secs so i barely go to char screen before it would just exit. But now i fixed this problem by going to task manager and end task on explorer.exe then i'd new task explorer.exe sorta like a refresh then i could start playing but i gotta do this everytime i boot up...

Hi, I'm also having crashing problems and was wondering if they are similar to what you guys have had. Either the game just shuts down randomly (rarely) or I get a screen freeze (quite a lot), but the music in the background keeps going. With the second case, my windows mouse appears and I am able to select windows operations (though blindly). For example, I can alt / tab and press escape to close the G.W's, rather than reset the whole pc. Anyways, thanks for any suggestions or tips.

Some PC Stuff: 1gig of ram
Geforce 6600 (256mb)
Windows XP Pro
Intel Pentium 4

*I have tried all the newest drivers, have nothing overclocked, am not having overheating, use 3 different anti-spyware programs, ran memtest, have nothing running in the background, and have a rating of about 33,000 from aquamark3 (if that helps any). Thanks again for any comments.

Oh yeah, does anyone have a suggestion for how I should set my virtual memory?

This problem started along time ago with Warcraft a couple of time but nothing serious. Then i bought GW, the problem got a little serious but its still ok( can play for hours stretch with no problem) Then my f--kin hardisk crashed, bought a new one installed a new gfx card as well (geforce 6200). Then problem became really serious.
I pulled out all my RAM and kept only a single 512 ram in the first slot, GW crashes. put into second one, crashes again. then in to the thrid one, MAGIC! it works for really well, all the games worked fine for about 2 weeks but....

The cannot read memory problem is back ONCE AGAIN!! First it crashes like once every 3 days then it becomes more frequent and now its impossible to play. i run out of droks kill a few of those stonesummit dawrfs... crash..

Warcraft 3 the frozen throne crashes as well, the error msg is always 'Fatal Error memory at this blah blah blah location cannot be accessed or read'

-Reinstalling windows ddint work.
-Reinstalling GW didnt work.
-Switching the RAM in to different slots didnt work.( it did work for sometime but as said above, the problem came back)
-Tought it was the heating problem, added a case fan, removed all the casing still ddint work.

Is it because of the gfx card? my old one also gave me problems but nothing serious.
I was wondering if it was my motherboard, the RAM slots may be failing. Its defintly not the RAM coz all my RAM gives the same error msg and its not cant be such a coincidence that all of them fails at the sametime ><
all drivers are up to date.

Pls help!!

My system is a amd fx55 on an asus a9v mother board with 1 gig of corsair xms memory and a256 meg xt850 video card. Plus a new 650 watt power supply.
If thats the case, make sure your box has good air flow. Ie not sitting on carpet or in an area that will restrict air flow. Also consider adding an exhaust fan of some type to the back of the unit, and maybe even an intake fan on the front of the unit.

Poor Air flow through a machine can kill hardware, and cause so many problems that there are just to many to list. Ranging from Segmentation Faults to Access errors, to all out crashes.

If the video card is reaching 70 c try looking for a better heat sink or cooling device for your video card. 70 c is really a breaking point. Check to make sure that the fan is actually running on the card if you have one on there.

Also to one unnammed individual advocating the use of a serial search engine. Please remove that stuff from this forum, I'm more then sure its against forum policies to post links and or information to Stolen/Hacked serial numbers for retail software. I would entirely advise against using this method of spyware detection. I would instead locate a free or open source scanner, for example Spybot Search and destroy works wounderfully for most things, you can also try Crap Cleaner, which also works fairly well for tiding up the registry as well as clearing out indexs and temporary files from a rang of things.

Hi. There are some things you can try if you dare change in bios, it worked on 3 of my comps when I had random crashes with GW.

1. change Commande rate from 1t to 2t
2. Lower CAS with .5 say from 3 to 2.5
3. Give the RAM slightly more power (never had to do that my self but ny wife did on hers)

Just be sure you know what the originals were so you can change them back,

Tried an upgraded PSU 500W ... no change C000005. I give up. Will check back occasionally to see if anybody has an answer I haven't tried.

I don't know what taking bois to min settings means .. lower CPU clock speed and AGP to 4x or 2x ??? a bit scared to change RAM rates with new kingston memory that shows expected speeds ....

To fox: The only non-GW sypmtom i have is that when I run Aquamark 20 consecutive times I used to crash 5 in 10 ... after applying the auquamark hotfix only crash 3 in 20 with EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION. You ever try 20 consecutive runs and see if it bombs. I'd be interested to read ...
