Default WTH is wrong here?

I am running nothing but this window, no background opertations or anything. Heres where the problem is, my CPU usage is at 100% for some reason! I am running nothing at all pretty much, why is it doing this?

If it's "System Idel Process" running at or near 100% that's normal. System Ideal Process actually means % for the cpu that's "free" for use.

Yeah that's my reason for asking. This process represents CPU time not used by any process in particular. If, however, you're getting that stat from Samurize or some other computer-statistics-on-your-desktop thing, then we can discuss the cause.

CTRL-SHIFT-ESC pops open the windows task manager, click on the CPU tab couple of times so that the it's sorted descending...

Then see the process names, what they are. Usually googling for those .exe files tells you what is wrong, but you can spam them here as well.

Incase the OP didn't know

What type of browser are you using. I've found that firefox occasionally uses 98-100% cpu usage.

Depends on the computer and amount of tabs opened, but yes, you are correct.

Big images, flash content, opening PDF-files in browser, some extra plugins can throw Firefox's CPU usage up to 100% on slower computers.. and on faster computers with enough trying.

Task Manager info would be appreciated, it's pretty much only way to solve the problem anyways

Requesting more information, this isn't helping at all Well, except that you most probably have a virus/spyware/adware running in the background. Run Adaware, Spybot, virus scanner etc.

I know lots about computers, and no I have no spyware, viruses, etc. running in the background. I have done lots of things to check why it is doing this, including many virus scans, and just cant find a reason why it is doing this.

Kaguya is trying to help you find out what is causing this on your computer, but you're not giving him the information he's asking for.

You can find out what % of your CPU cycles each process (read: .exe or service) is using on your computer. Once you find out which process is eating your CPU time you can find out what it is. If you will follow his instructions and tell us which processes (besides System Idle Process) are using your CPU cycles maybe we can help you figure this out. Until you do this we cannot help you.

Ok, here is what Kaguya is asking you to do. Press CTRL-SHIFT-ESC on your keyboard. You should see a window that looks like this:

Click the column header where is says CPU. The first time you click will sort the items in ascending order. Click the CPU column header again. This will sort the list in descending order by CPU usage. The items at the top of the list are using the most CPU cycles. Take note of the names of the processes that are at the top of the list and what number they show in the CPU column. Tell us which ones are using more than 5-10%. With that information we can help you more.

Here is a tutorial with more good info on using the Task Manager to figure out what's eating your resources:

Yes Dex, I know what to do in the task manager box. Right now, the only processes that are going are the basics needed for the computer to function and iexplorer.exe. But, I figured out what was wrong and fixed the problem already. Thank you all for the help that you have offered me.

NOTE

Anet tech support has said more than once that high CPU usage is NORMAL (some high end dual cores exempted)

the big question nobody asked is if he just noticed it or it was low but now is high.

if it was low before he probably would be askinh about the increase rather than simply being high.

NORMAL

Ok, sorry. Since Task Manager will always tell you what is using which resources and you were not able to figure out what was eating said resources I assumed that you weren't doing this.

I understood that only the "basics needed for the computer to function" were running, but there are many things that can cause iexplore.exe to use 100% CPU and even more things that can cause explorer.exe to use 100% CPU (simple Windows problems/settings, virus scanners, etc. can cause this). Even just knowing which process was doing this would have been a help.

Just out of curiosity, what was it?

@Loviatar: I thought he implied that GW.exe was not running. I could be mistaken.

Hehe, nice information package there Dex

I prolly should result to few screenies as well, much easier to get the point across, even tho he knew how to operate the Task Manager.
