Default Trouble Connecting to ArenaNet

hello, i bought guild wars from a friend and i tried installing it on my computer. whenever the screen that says connecting to arnea net comes up the bar goes all the way across the window but it never connects. i do have a router but i'm not sure what the settings are and i think it must have something to do with that. does anyone know the settings for a router or has anyone else had this problem. if you do then please post because i really would like to play

Prolly your router has a firewall built-in. Maybe someone smarter on this site can tell you how to get around that... Otherwise you might just have to hook it directly from your modem to the computer.

The ports that need to be opened are on the GW support page. You have to open TCP and UDP, but I don't know the port numbers off the top of my head. Also, check and see if you have a software firewall on your PC, i.e. McAfee. They sometimes will block game ports.

After I had gw update after the pvp event, I had to uninstall gw and then reinstall it due to one of the update messed up the gw.dat file for the exact same problem but not this may not resolve your issue.

Here is the official support notice for this: http://support.guildwars.com/cgi-bin...p?p_faqid=2856
(It does mention issues with a specific netgear router) but they also have a utility to check connection. ftp://ftp.guildwars.com/diag/netinfotool_allos_gw.exe
