Smile Help with GW.exe tweak intructions please

Quote:
had a lot of trouble running Guild Wars at first, lag, missing textures, messed up textures, failed loading etc etc, SO I decided to post tips on getting it to not only install and run, but run smoothly. As a note, I use P2P 2.0.2 with Cedega 4.4.

Don't install with cd's, its bad luck. Instead, go HERE.

Firstly, install it. Download the client from the above link and start up P2P. Click install in P2P, and type Guild Wars as the Program Title. Unzip the client, and then select it in P2P with browse under Installer. When the install comes up, click Install Guild Wars and run through the install as normal.

Try running Guild Wars. If all works well, be happy
If like me, you experience problems, try some things I mentioned below.

*If you want to play in a window, set Desktop in the Graphics tab at LEAST 800x600 and in game use full screen of the same resolution. If you do not use the desktop and instead use Guild Wars' window mode you will experience graphic lag and texture problems!

*If you experience problems with seeing water everywhere, in Guild Wars go into Options (or press [F11]) and click Advanced under Video Quality and set Shadow Quality to Off. It seems there is a problem with shadow support from Cedega.

*If you experience problems with frame rate in Guild Wars try going into Options (or press [F11]) and click Advanced under Video Quality and set Reflections to Terrain and Sky. Setting it to All causes me to have very choppy game play, and Terrain and Sky makes everything run smoothly.

*Using the ingame minimize button often if not always crashes the game! Instead, I suggest [Alt]-[Tab] out of the game.

Try changing the setting as I list them below. To change settings, click Guild Wars at the left in P2P and then right click the Guild Wars icon in the left and click Edit Profile.

I have highlighted things that seem to greatly affect the game for the good.

I like challenges

It looks like there downloading the gw.dat file (all the files) from to p2p from a known good install. What file sharing / p2p there using, have not clue. The gw.dat file could get corrupted via update (rare but happens) or to not have to download everything after a clean install.

Missing / Messed up texture I would lean towards not up to dat video card drivers. Thing the warning about the early nvidia 81.xx series that had issues with gw textures. This was fixed in newer drivers.

Closing on exit causes crash is also an old nvidia driver bug fixed with latter driver.

The rest look like, my game playes well here is hardware report of my system from a program (not sure which) that tells you detailed info about your hardware abilities.

The profile off of right clicking is throwing me off then again forgot a lot of Windows 98 stuff and options, been too long away from it for me.

(edit) Ah found answer - this is instruction to play guild wars on linux in windows emulated virtual machine. Now the windows 98 stuff makes sense.
