i just recently started experiencing the same kind of problem i have a geforce fx5700 been playing guildward 4 months no problems, no driver or windows updates or any other changes that would be relevent, computer runs fine on every other game with no probs, then in past few days i can be playing 4 or 5 hours or 10 mins and the screen goes all multicoloured lines and squares ( no beeping or noises) and computer freezes with only reboot solving it.. whats curious though is ive recently changed to US servers and wonder if this may be contributing to the problem as i never had the issue until i changed.. pc specs are athlon xp2600 768 ddr ram nvidia fx5700 running xp pro with sp2.. no other way to describe screen other than multi coloured garbage , though sometimes you can still see the game thru it extremely badly pixelated, other times its just a mess of colours... any ideas? oh and temperature as i forgot cpu around 50-55 max, case is around 40 and graphics card 41-43 max

My machine has been working perfectly overall. Here are some of my observations in reguards to this threed.

The Nvidia 6600 series cards come up a lot with issues in these forums.

I've found the best driver for the Nvidia 5x Series is the 77.77

Example the 5x driver was great for my 5700 but the 6x official drivers series had lots of issues (with textures) here and there, the 77.77 fixed all the oddities that showed up with the 6x driver.

Newer nvidia *beta* drivers 8x has texture issues (there not any 8x official drivers at the time of this post).

Two issues of white boxes / missing textures both have an SIS chipset on there mother board. I would install the SIS mother board chipset drivers.

well i emailed anet about the problem and got a fairly swift response
first off i was told to download a little prog called driver cleaner pro, then visit the nvidia website and get the latest offical drivers from there, finally delete the dat files from guildwars and all should be fine..HAHAHAHAHA.. damn you anet you almost killed my comp. ok so i ran driver cleaner pro and chose the nvidia option as stated in the email and clicked clean..ok fine so far.. next stage reboot..did that no probs..now have large fonts and standard vga dispaly..no drivers installed of course i would have. installed the new nvidia drivers..all fine..reboot..ahhh.. ok whers the nvidia drivers, wheres the nvida desktop icon..hmm well drivers are installed BUT..hmmm somehwere along the line registry gets screwed by driver cleaner and im now getting irq conflicts between agp and onboard and the new drivers didnt switch things off or kick in..ok disable onboard reboot ..hmmm ok grey screen nothing now works pull hair out scream rant and rave try safe mode.. damn still nothing, no display at all, change bios settings reboot..still nothing. thank god my bios has recovery mode..hit f9 boot from previous working install...ok we get graphics.. we get nvidia we get 1024 x678 desktop at 85 hertz ( crappy 17inch monitor what ya expect) ok so drivers now work no conflicts. next delete dat file in guildwars folder..hmm ok with relucyance do that.. start guildwars, and wait for all the updates to load ( also have to wairt for em to upload when u visit every area...so far no crashes or glitches. will post udate if /when it does screw up but keeping fingers crossed its fixed... i do think that deleting the dat file could be the answer if you had an update that somehow got corrupt that could be the cause of all the graphics issues and why both nvidia and ati are affected.. who knows but hey at least its working...for now

Default Ati Gpu Recovery Crash

At completly random times, Guild Wars will freeze and it will take ATI GPU recovery to unfreezr and reset the graphics card for the game to unfreeze. A pop up box called ATI GPU Recovery pops up after 10 seconds into the crash, and then Guild Wars is fixed. Why does this happen only to Guild Wars, not HL2, FEAR, BF2, and CS:S? Notihng is overclocked.

OK, here are my symptoms. When seeing the specs, you'll realize this is purely a software problem somewhere, nothing hardware related.

Monitors goes into standby, have to reboot.
Does it at purely random times.

Specs:

AMD 64 FX-57 CPU
500 watt PSU
2 gigs Corsair ram
80 gig barracuda hd
200 gig barracude hd
Nvidia 7800GTX x2 in SLI
Sounblaster Audigy 2 Platinum Sound
My case has 0 fans. I run a Cooler master Phase Change cooler and CPU temp is usually around 42 degrees Fahrenheit.

This has been goin on for as long as I can remember. Sometimes I'll do something and it won't happen for a week. Then it'll happen twice within ten minutes.
