That is all of it, cut and pasted from the error report. I hope someone out there can give me some advice as to what this all means so that I might be able to fix the problem and start enjoying the game without the embarrassment of leaving a party to do a quest without me. Or paying 1k for passage to the underworld and crashing as soon as I get there!! Or trying to sell the items I have to make some money and crashing half way through a deal!! Please help, I used to love the game but now I am starting to loath it!!

Cheers

Hi. I just had the excact same problem, and I too had written to GW Support. The needed a DxDiag.txt file to answer, so I sent the file. they said it was the AMD64 Processer driver that had to be updated. So I did. But before that i tried switching my DDR so that it an with 1 gb single channel ddr 333mhz frequency. Before i ran with Dual Channel DDR 400mhz. I changed bothe things and it seemed that its working now..... only played for 2 hours, and not sure its working 100%. But try these chanes

Any problems with other games?

I'd try running Memtest86+ atleast as the error would refer to an memory error.

Cheers for the feedback, and so quick!! I am running an Athlon 3000+ chip and have found problems in various other software as well. Itunes siezes up when I rip a disk (usually half way through an album). I have tried going into Task manager and shutting down various processes to see if that will help (ie. Virus software, email client, ituneshelper, and even an Svhost that runs at around 22,000 (seemed a bit to high?). I have around 6 Svhost running is that normal? I used to use Kinston Memory and had 2gig, but I got a professional to take a look and he said my Kingston memory was not working side by side, and he told me to get Corsair so I did and now have 2 x 512mb of that running in Dual channel. Not sure what to do really, keep pestering the wife for a new Laptop seems like the easiest (hard) solution at the moment!!

Thanks for the quick reply!!! Where do you get memtest86+ and do you have to create a floppy boot up disk or can you use a CD instead?

http://www.memtest.org/ is the website for the program.. They have ready-to-burn ISO images to make it CD bootable, and also versions to make a bootable floppy or an USB mem...

THe aforementioned problem normally denotes RAM failure. Either on your card or on the MOBO itself. You can try updating your drivers. But you might want to reseat your RAM as well.

Most probably vidcard drivers, from www.nvidia.com for GeForce cards.

Try updating your Graphics and Sound card drivers.

Graphics from www.nvidia.com and Sound Card driver from the Manufacturer of your Sound card, look into dxdiag for that.

+ Re-seating your RAM might help, or testing your RAM with only 1 RAM module in at a time, make sure both sides click when you put it in.

Grayswood, what type of lan card do you have? People with Marvell Yukon Lan card seem to have problems with Guild Wars. Someone else also had problems like you did and he found a way to solve it. May be this will help you. Good luck.

"I did roll back my driver for my Marvell Yukon Lan card this morning, went to Asus update site and downgraded my driver to version 6.30. I must say now that I think back I did a windows update about 2 months ago and at the stage also udated my Lan driver. I believe my lock up then started.

Well I did not have loads of time this morning to test the game again, but I did and so far SOOOOOOOOOOO GOOOOOOOOOD!!!! I will definately keep u posted on how the game is performing since I downgraded to the Asus update's site Marvells driver."

"I have been setting up some game play tests all week and so far I only have good news to report. Uninstalling the Marvell Yukon on the machines that have it, and reinstalling it using official drivers from the Marvell website, has led me to a completely freeze free week of guild wars testing."

I say you should stop giving advice.

Because DUDE, you really SUCK at it.

There's still loads of solutions he could try to fix that before re-formatting, that's usually the LAST option if all else fails.

Stop giving advice, c'mon, you think you can overclock Graphics Card RAM.

I don't know if this is helpful at all, since my experiences with "back to desktop"-crashes are with older CPUs, but...
I used to play GW during the betas, using an AMD Athlon Thunderbird C 1.4, and I kept getting these crashes.
Tech-support made me switch this and that, I ran various memory-tests, stress-tests, switched memory sticks, switched the graphics-card...nothing helped.
The game was released, I bought it, still got the same crashes over and over.
I did a fresh install of the game, I did a fresh install of Windows *and* the game, I even switched the motherboard - nothing helped.
Then I switched the CPU to an AMD Duron 1.3...guess what? THAT helped.
So I don't know if the game prefers something in the Duron over the Athlon, or what else the deal is, because everything else runs flawless on the Athlon.
