I'd say either that one or this one that Alias_X recommended in your other thread. [why create two?] According to user reviews it looks like the one you selected may be a little difficult to get into the case and mount, but otherwise it seems fine as long as you don't plan on switching over to a bunch of SATA drives anytime soon.

I wouldn't go cheep on the power supply. I had a decently priced PSU ~70 and my machine ate it. I just bought a ANTEC and after some reasearch I desided that my $1000+ machine was worth another $20(the power supply was under $90). If I can remember I have a link to a tech forum and they rate PSU's from low to high and then you can check quality compared to price.

I wouldn't worry about the price but the quality, I'm sure that you can come up with a few more dollars and in the long run it will be worth it. I now have 150+ in my PSU B/c I had to replace the first one.

I am guessing you chose that power supply because it fit into your budget and had huge wattage? Right?

Well, know this:
A good 300watt PSU can outperform a bad or generic (like the ones that come with cases) 550watt psu.

When buying a psu, you must look for quality. Weight of the PSU is also a good determining factor. If it weighs a lot, it is probably better quality.

Now, I reccomend the Fortron 450Watt psu, because over a billion people have reccomended it to me over at www.anandtech.com forums. I am ordering mine this weekend, because my generic PSU is unstable.

Anyway, that 450watt can run my system with ease. My system is a
AMD Athlon X2 4400+
2gigs of OCZ ram
eVga 7800GT (soon to be a 7900GT with the step up program)
2 optical drives
1 hard drive
3 case fans and huge @$$ heatsink.
and 2 case lights.

I am running only the bear essentials on my current setup so as it wont crash lol.

I would go 450watt Fortron.

Remember, a 300watter that is quality could outperform the PSU you have selected. Rather than saying must be more than 450watts, because you obviously are asking for a PSU that will run your system, so you don't know if one under 450 will run it or not, say want a QUALITY PSU for a performance rig.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817194003

I have this one by Enermax
AMD X2 4400
3 HDs
2 DVD/RWs
6800GT Vid
3 fans
Asus SLI board (premium)
and a few addon cards

You could get that one, but it isnt doing sh** more for you than the Fortron. The Fortron will run almost any system, except for a few SLI systems.

It is a quality built reliable PSU. Why spend $110 when you could spen $50???

I agree, the 12v rails mean a lot, but overkill is overkill.

yep alias is right.. alot of stuff out on the market is like fishing lures- shiney and attract more fisherman than actual fish.. the real problem with powersupplies is a cheap one can go out easily if it's not plugged into a decent ups.. if you have a decent ups you can get away with a really cheap ps.. when they go out it's not like you would think- the voltage will start to vary and cause your system to lock for no reason.. this is common after a powerout

note

the size of the power supply has nothing to do with the electric bill

it is a measure of what is availabe for your pc to use as it draws what it needs and is not force fed.

like the wall socket. it is there if you need it but a 100watt bulb is not going to be force fed 250 watts

Then he's a tardbunny. If you want to get down to the nitty gritty, sure the size of your power supply may increase/decrease your electrical bill by a fraction of a penny to a couple cents, if it is being compared to a larger/smaller power supply being used in an identical conditions.

A big problem with what that guy says is that some power supplies are more efficient than others, meaning that the electricity consumed may not be relative to the total wattage of all power supplies in general.

Also, it's not like your computer is actually on all day every day 24/7/365 when you're 15 is it? I had left my main box, a 420W from Thermaltake, on for a month for the Uptime Project while using my server, Linux box, and laptop periodically and when I got my electricity bill computer related costs were 15% of my total electricity consumption. Needless to say, I started to use the 'Stand By' feature instead of leaving my computer on all the time and gave up on the Uptime Project. Unless you waste electricity like that you shouldn't have any problems. I guarantee you that just about everyone giving tech advice here will tell you that the size of your power supply is not going to send your electricity bill through the roof.

All of those will be the rating they claim or higher, stable, clean power, and all have active PFC which raises efficiency and cuts on power bill.

Enjoy.
