Default Random lag issue

Well, I'm going to do my best to describe the issue as I've been experiencing it for the past week or so:

My internet connection is solid (cable) and my computer is fine... I'm running an AMD Athlon 3500+ processor, an Radeon 9550 video card, and a gig of Corsair RAM. However, over the past weeks I've had a serious issue with Guild Wars when entering a PVP match, whether GVG, Tombs, or RA/TA. Every now and then (with no rhyme or reason that I can detect) I'll begin lagging at the beginning of the match. The match timer will count down until the start, and then lock at "Time to start: 00:00."

Any movement would result in warping, though not until after a full minute or more, and spell would refuse to cast for as long as 5 minutes. My guildmates report that my timer, when it finally moves off of 00:00, is several minutes behind the actual time, and my movements will eventually occur, though not until well after I make them. Obviously Ventrilo isn't lagging during this time, because I keep up with their voicechat just fine. The framerate is incredibly choppy, and I do see my teammates' movements and health bars, but not until well after events have progressed - in fact, several minutes after. At the end of the match, when I should be booted back to a guild hall, I get an Error 007.

I have no problem with other applications or online games (for me, primarily World of Warcraft). I also manage to run just fine in PVP as long as this doesn't happen, and it always happens right upon entering the PVP arena instance or it simply won't happen at all. Has anyone had similar experiences and been able to solve them? I know the servers have been hiccoughing lately with factions, but this seems a bit extreme.
