Default Changes/cooling

I have recently built a computer
specs-
Intel P4 3.4ghz HT
4x 1gb= 4GB ram
80GB HD
450W PSU
APG 4x/8x 256MB 6600GT Video Card 500mhz core clock 900mhz memory clock
CDRW/Burner

Would you suggest a change in anything( such as PSU)? And how should i cool it? just case fans, Hd fan, CPU Copperheatsink/fan,APG Slot Fan, and ram heatspreaders?

If this is being built from scratch... why are you going with AGP graphics vs. PCI Express?

I won't even start on the whole Ram thing...

I just don't see 4GB being all that beneficial at this point in time. I've seen benchmarks at reviews sites that confirm it as well. However, in the end it is your choice.

Ah, so you have the CPU already I assume. In that case if it limits you to AGP then by all means.

Need a brand name on the PSU. "450W PSU" doesn't tell us anything, it could be a piece of junk unfit for use.

You bumped this thread 30 minutes after you last posted. Why?

1 Gb is the norm for high end stuff now, 2gb is still room for expansion.

You should really go with PCI-E slot (at least two 16x slots)

Speed of the memory makes a bigger impact then amount once you reach a certain amount.
1-2gb high speed memory > 4 gb "standard" memory.

why 2? i cant run 2 unless i have crossfire, and as i said before, they have yet to come up with pci-e compatible motherboards for 478socket for the USA, i think SLI and/or Crossfire compatibility will br even further down the road, if there even considering making them.

Excuse me, but didn't you mention in another thread that your MoBo can only take 2GB of RAM? If so why have you gone for 4GB? You only have two memory slots on your MoBo!

I'm sorry, but can you actually post any sensible questions that have at least some sort of continuity to them?

PCI-E on 478.

http://www.asus.com/products2.aspx?l1=3&l2=12

here's a couple of them.

Google could be your friend if you'd use it instead of spamming all over the place. If you have a question, try doing some research first. We;re not dogs to go play fetch information all the time. We all want to help, but we also aren't gonna sit here at your beck and call and do your work for you, unless you pay me to build you a PC. Then I'll do the work and deliver you a nice fast AMD system.

This is a warning, keep posting thread after thread asking us to do the work and bumping them every thirty minutes and there will be consequences. This forum is enough work without every third thread being yours.

Depends on where you live! I could build you a similar PC for 1/3 of the price of an Alienware (including service), just depends on if you're in England. Which you're obviously not!

Hold on... you bought a socket 478 motherboard and based everything around this because you already had a 478 processor? That's way inefficient. If you're going to buy a new mobo, gfx card, HDD, etc, you shouldn't be buying outdated equipment-- all that's going to happen is you'll have to pay even more money later when you want to upgrade to something that isn't already a fossil. It'd be more cost efficient in the long run to just buy a new processor as well, send back the 478 mobo, the AGP gfx card, maybe the RAM and HDD too depending on compatibility and speed, and buy a PCI-E mobo with a decent processor, RAM, and PCI-E video card. You could also get SATA on that motherboard, and then you'd be able to use nice SATA hard drives, maybe even in a RAID array. Yes it would be more expensive than what you currently have, but it would save you money in the long run.

You'll get a good amount of time out of that gear, trust me I've a much lower spec machine by comparison and I can still run newer games fine.

I'd suggest picking up a bigger hard disk if you do want to buy anything more, should be quite cheap for that.

Wow, I've had enough of you Res.

- Your rude.
- You try and advise people stupid things.
- You never know what your talking about.
- "450w PSU, need a new 1?" - Tells us nothing, brand name maybe?
- You bump your topics like 30 minutes after, you tried noticing the times other people 'bump' there topics.
- Did I mention your rude?

Josh does raise some very good points there. I wasn't planning on saying anything myself, but Res, it would be good to take what he said into account and try to make improvements on it.
