with a good video card, would the monitor get any better? cause mine is kinda green, when i had the 6800gt i dont remember it this green, maybe i need new monitor?

Have you tried calibrating the colors?

Did you alter anything in the Color Management tab?

a video card cant make that much difference to the every day use 'sharpness' of a monitor, they do often have settings to sharpen up games and videos a little, but general use, no...

My 21" samsung monitor is now 6 years old, getting a little blurry on text and on the desktop (For games its still fine) - I just need a 'Cap Kit' and then it should be fine..

(a Cap Kit is a package of Capacitors to replace in the monitor, as a capacitor gets old, it looses its ability to store, and therfore, the result is a blurrier picture)

The cost depends on the make/model of the monitor,

it also requires an experienced electrical enginner to fix them... basically they need to remove all capacitors from the monitor (or TV) and replace them with the new ones

The cost of such being often as much or more than a better monitor.

DO NOT attempt to open your CRT monitor at home. You can literally stop your heart and burn your fingers off on the voltages if you brush against the caps.

If it's green, get a new monitor. The guns are failing.

If it's getting fuzzy, it might could be repaired with a cap replacement, but every year there are better ones come out.

I have to upgrade too. Don't feel bad.

Are you using a VGA cable? If so, before you go buying a new monitor, may I suggest trying a new cable? You may have lost your red or blue signal (damaged cable or pin), making everything greenish.

And yes monitors CRT wise are very much like a TV set. You have to know how to defuse the electric charge in the capacitor before you work on them.

I remember working with a tech who was wearing a gold necklace when he popped open a CRT display. As he bent over the opened CRT, his necklace made contact with the CRT's back end. There was an audible pop as he got thrown accross the work area and was unconscious for a few minutes. He was OK but sent to the doctors just to be safe.

For CRT's, the RAMDAC used by the video card did make a difference for windows desktop text sharpness (Matrox cards were popular because of this). However, once flat panels started entering the picture and 3d performance started to overshadow image text clarity, RAMDAC's became less critical.

The most important factor for image quality will always be the physical display, whether CRT or LCD.

but do you remember those amber suckers?

did you ever play with a stack of punch cards 8.3 inches high and have someone trip going to the computer?

did you have to remember to bring a jacket to the computer lab because they had that 10 foot long 4 foot high monster in a very cold room to balance out the tubes heat?

I've had experience with both amber/black and green/black terminals. As summer student those things were being used on an aging POS (Point of Sales) system.

Never had experience with punch card computing though, that is definitly before my time.

As for on topic. CRT is dying. With the LCD technology becoming cheaper and the quality & speed drastically improving I would just travel the path of upgarding.

I'm not sure about the "Condition: Certified. Perfect condition. Like NEW. Grade-A", does that mean it's used? Never buy used equipment if you don't have to.

I'm not much of a fan of that low of a contrast ratio, but that's often a weak point in LCD monitors.

I personally use a 19'' Samsung SyncMaster 192MP LCD monitor and it works great... downside is you'll be dropping near $700 US for it. :/

Not exactly, but I did knock a 6" pile off the end of the card reader once. The boss wasn't too happy with me that day, I tell you!
