Hi there!

I'm hoping that one of you could help me? I have a PCI Express graphics card I think, it's the only thing I can find out on this darn thing. And I have only I have...only 256ram..appearently. I got my bonus check and I'm wondering what would help solve my laging problem in pvp areas and sometimes in the game in general...a new graphics card or more RAM? Thanks!

I also have a PCI Express card, but when I upgraded my ram it did solve a lot of my lagg issues. Mind you, I still experience some lagg that seems to be with the server (since others are complaining of the same type). I would go with the ram upgrade first, just my opinion..I'm sure others here could give you more expert advice

I had 256, and upgraded to 768 and I run very smooth with no lag issues.
I don't have pci express though, so I don't know of any lag issues regard GW and those card types. I use a radeon 9800 pro. I'm guessing that yours is probably better than mine, so the ram upgrade should do the trick.

Without knowing what card you have: 256Mb is a little on the low side for today's games (and even apps really) 512Mb should be minimum more or less.

Also some other things you can try: turn all the graphics details down to minimum/off from the GW Options page and see if that helps anything. You could also try different drivers either from www.nvidia.com or www.ati.com depending on your existing card.

DDR2-SDRAM 256 Mbytes...So when I go to get more ram..does it have to be another 256mb or could I get a 1GB?

if you want to be sure about what is causing the lag try finding a way to post your complete system specs first although I would definitely agree a RAM upgrade is needed. You never know there could be other attributing factors as well so it's always a good idea to provide as many details as possible.

Yes your machien will run guildwars, however, that amount of ram is too little for an xp machine that is running games, try and get a stick of 512 ram pc3200/ddr400. But you should be able to run guildwars fine at the moment.

20 quid there for a stick, donmt be put off by the "extra value", ive had 2 of these sticks before myself, the chips were actually samsung!

I know it runs GW, i've been playing it since it hit the shelves. However I tire of my team in PvP being dead before i load. So i'm trying to solve the problem.

If I decided to get a 1gb... I would have to replace my existing ram right?

What kind of graphics card does it have or is it onboard? If onboard that is your problem. Just because it has PCI Express slot listed there doesn't mean its using it.

Putting 256 megs of memory on that system is criminal from Dell...
Absolutely get 512M - 1G of ram first. It will greatly speed up *all* your applications.
Then if it still feels slow look into upgrading the video card.
The CPU is more than enough.

I can't figure that out! It say's you have DDR2 memory yet the max bandwidth is PC3200. I didn't know you could get PC3200 DDR2! The slowest DDR2 I've seen is PC4200 (533MHz)

Perhaps its being downclocked or not reporting properly.

Back on topic:

If, in fact, you have a PCIe video card (and not just an open slot w/ integrated video), you have a minimum of a Radeon x300se (slowest pcie video card I have seen). This card will in fact run GW quite well if the rest of your system is fast (I was using one temporarily until my "real" card came in).

Therefore, I would reccomend the ram - preferably 2 identical sticks (512mb ea for a total of 1gb) so you can get the dual channel performance advantage. Note that yes, you will have to remove your old ram. This should improve your general computing experience substantially.

As for the OP, I'm with ZennZero on this. Get yourself 1GB of RAM and drop that in after removing your orginal 256MB. Make sure to see what RAM your motherboard can handle first, is it DDR2 or is it the more standard PC3200 DDR

I used a program to get all that up there.... So what is says is what I know. However I looked up my computer on the dell website and it popped up with these...
