Default Login Screen Error

Alright, I just realized that the FPE is today, it completely slipped my mind. I quickly went to load up GW and test it all out. Well I got it uploaded and got the updates in, then when I went to login in on my e-mail I failed.

The window would say "Connecting..." and never do anything. I decided to try to look up the problem. I found some other people having this issue and eventually getting an err58. I saw someone mention adding your GW.exe to your firewall list, well mine already is. So I decided just to shutdown my firewall entirely and run GW, it worked!

Well I can't have my firewall off to run GW so I had to quickly turn it back on causing the same problem again. I have never had this issue before, my firewall never gets in my way. Could this be caused by the FPE? Should I adjust my settings or something to a lower level security? I am running McAfee Security Center and two out of four of my main securities are expired. Would the expiration cause this problem at all? Should I run an adware/spyware scan or a Virus Scan? Should I just bite my lip and wait until the FPE is over then see if it works? I hope someone can help me! Thanks in advance for any tips!

Sincerely,
Sergio Leone

If it doesn't work with firewall on, and it does with firewall off and nothing else differant, process of elimination says firewall is at fault. May not have given you problems in the past, but every time GW updates you more than likely have to grant GW access through your firewall. Appologies if ya know this, but seems the logical answer rather than trundling through adware and spyware and virus scans first.

So basically, double check your firewall settings, ports 80 and 6112 are important, dunno what others it uses off the top of my head if any.

Alright I will try going through and trusting the events.

EDIT: Just went through them and found about 5 things that had S. Port 6112and about 15+ S. Port 80. I don't know what that means, is that the right port? There is also a port thing that says D. Port. It also lists the IP Address and some other stuff. Is there any way to identify any one specically as a GW thing?

As for trusting after the updates, a little window comes up and I always click Allow always or whatever it is. So I don't know if there is a problem with that or not.

If you could please tell me how to identify the ports as GW or not that would help tons. Thank you.

How do I do that though? I am not by far a firewall expert. Until today just "Granting Access" to Guild Wars after every update worked fine and that's all I ever had to interact with firewall. Now everyone is saying that my problem is firewall and to open ports and to allow Guild Wars, but I don't know how or which ports to open. Please please give an in-depth description on what I should do.

Thank

Sergio Leone

EDIT: After a re-installation I can now Log in to Guild Wars but all my characters armor appears to be gone, and when I go to access a character, it does the "Connecting..." thing again and never loads. Hope that helps.

2ND EDIT: Alright, I was messing with the ports and trusted one of the S. Port 80. I then could no longer even log onto my name. I untrusted it and it did nothing.

Problem has been officially resolved. I was lagging for some reason and I just had to leave it for a real long time. Though that was only AFTER re-installation. I downloaded all the GW files and I'm now downloading all those files that would have been obtained from ALL the updates ever!

Mods I think this one can be closed.
