For my basic setup on my newer pc is two moniters one baisc 19" and the other is 15". Sometimes I have vent on one LCD to watch people who come in and out or look at a map or something.
I don't think 17" would be as nice as 19" Later for myself I will upgrade my 15" ot 19" or just paid a bigger one altogether.

With all today moniters

* What about refresh rate? 75Hz or set it to it. In right click on the desktop pro, setting adv, moniter 75 in the drop down
* What about response time? DVi is fast
* What native resolution should I be looking for? 1024x768 it is ok for normal windows, I use the bigger one for the game in order to see more around me.

I used to think that too until I cranked up my Sceptre X20g Naga III, 8ms response time. Newegg has them for $349 after the rebate. Read the reviews.

Really, any thing after 6 years with a 17" CRT is a step up.
