Default ForceWare 84.21?

Is there anyone out there running this latest revision of ForceWare? If so, are there any outstanding issues with it while playing Guild Wars?

Simply wondering if I should upgrade, since Windows "totally lawl 100% freaked outzorz roffle le mayo" last time when I uninstalled from my beloved 77.72 and jumped to the 8x.xx series on my piece-of-junk 6600GT...no, I have no reason to upgrade since 77.72 is working just fine, I just want to if it's stable enough.

Some issues I've had with earlier drivers in the release 80 series:
Texture funkyness (supposedly fixed)
Random crashes (system halt) while loading into an instance
Random lockups (Alt-Tab, end GW.exe) while loading into an instance

"If it's not broken...go fix it."

Well, I decided to uninstall 77.72 and went with 84.21.

I haven't noticed any major problems so far (knock on wood), but all I've been doing has been idling. I'll keep 81.98 in mind if I run into issues, thanks.

The thing I don't like about the 84.21 drivers is there only MS WHQL certified for the Geforce 6 & 7 Series. The 81.89 was MS WHQL certified for the Geforce 2-7 line.

Nvidia graphics drivers. I had switched to ATI after no resolution to the inventory freeze and mission/bonus shield screen freeze that happens on nvidia based cards. But lately been having crashes with ATI's software, so went back to my nvidia card and then loaded the latest drivers and it's working without the freezes, weird.

"ForceWare" = a term that NVIDIA gives to its set of video drivers.
"Catalyst" = same thing, but for ATI.

Nvidia want to get a cool sounding name to call there video card driver's. Currently it's "forceware", It use to be "detonator".

I'm doing it again sorry.
MS WHQL = Microsoft tested the driver and it passes microsoft extensive tests to not crash windows.
It not realted to how well it works on games on the other hand.

If you are running anything below the 80 series 81.98 is a great set to try for starters. They seem to work with pretty much everyone's setup.

I bought a BFG 6800GS AGP (slightly overclocked) in January. The 81.98 driver would not work with that card. In fact, it wouldn't install, it didn't recognise my card.

I've been using the driver from Dec 15/05 which I think is the last driver before 91.98 and it works mighty fine.

Soooo, does anyone have a BFG 9800GS currently using the 84.21 drivers? Do they work?

I used to have one of the 77's...switched to the 81.98 forceware driver a few months ago...noticed a significantly smaller amount of crashes and such.

I don't believe the ForceWare series supports anything below GeForce 6200...but I have a 5500FX, and it works fine - plus I can run Guild Wars on pretty good settings with it in that manner, too.

I upgraded last night to 84.21 in order to remedy some performance problems. No problems after that, I'm on a stock PNY GeForce 6800 AGP.

any driver newer than 81.98 should work with your card. it came out after the drivers were finished that's why it's unsupported.

6600gt with 84.21 forceware working like a charm here.
re: 6800 gs -- if you are running an agp version of that card you might consider the 84.25 beta drivers. (release notes)

6800GT x2 in SLI: GW used to crash on me every now and then with the 77.72 drivers. Since I've been using 81.98, I've had zero issues and have seen no reason to up it to 84.21. IMHO go with 81.98 or newer... seems like everyone's doing dandy with them.

I get hella random crashes with Guild Wars and now that I've seen this post, I think that might be my problem. I got 84.21 and now my computer randomly gets the BLue Screen Of Death at the login screen. It also crashes when loading into an instance. Very annoying, and I think this might be the problem. So I shall also roll back to 81.98 drivers because the game ran fine with them, don't even know why I chose to update.

As for me I'm sporting a BFG GeForceFX 6800 Ultra OC 8x AGP Card because I'm too poor for PCI Express. ^_^;;; Oh well, wish me luck.

Thanks for posting this thread, if it weren't for this, I never would've thought of fresh formatitng and installing the 81.98 drivers instead of upgrading. Thanks for the help, now I can play again.
