Default Faction pre-load or what?

I don't know if this has been answered as the search is disabled.

Today I opened the GW client and left it open, when I came back some time later it had downloaded 250mb o.O and continuing, is this a pre-load for factions, like valve does before the release of a game to relieve stress on the servers or is there something wrong with my installation?

Thanks for the attention,
Caipa

How long has it been since you last played?

well, not so long ago, I played a bit on the FPE weekend, but I was away from the game since then, always looking at the update page at gw.com to download the new stuff.

280mb now o.O

Yeah. They've had some large streaming updates since then. I don't know how much there is, though since I've been playing a little bit almost every day. It may stop at about 340 or so. But who knows. I didn't add the download sizes up.

Why would they stream finalised Factions content when they don't even know who's going to own the game? Seems like a waste of bandwidth.

Good point, but in this case I'm sure the company doesn't mind about bandwidth. They probably have enough resources to do it for everyone, making it a versatile merge. Sounds awefully kind of them to do so, if this is the case.

Oh, I just had a thought.

Guild Wars Factions takes place in Cantha, an Asian-inspired three-nation continent far to the south of the lands of Tyria, the setting for Guild Wars (the original Prophecies campaign). Players who own both Factions and the original Prophecies campaign can travel between the two continents by boat.

Now if we can travel to Tyria, that means the original GW must have some information in order to do this. Could it be this as well?

it could be it, the fact that I played on both the pvp event, and the fpe could count me as a potential buyer ? or maybe its just the shared stuff like refused said.

ok, it seems to have stopped at 450mb, thats quite a lot , but I'm glad as I'll have to download less when I'm actually playing the game

They have to do parts of it, even for c1 only users. C2 users can go to C1 so any pets, armor, weapons, skills animation, crafting items, or any inventory objects that could go over to C1, you have to have the data files for in C1, even if you don't own C2 because you can interact with them.

Now Maps, terrian, music, mission, etc don't have to be. If I were to guess, I think you would need to have 1/3 of the data files of.

Now if there still pushing the PvP/PvE content it may be some waste but anyone how has a preview key can play faction for at least 1 day too.
