Default "Program Not Responding"

This is happening with all of my games (newer than SimCity 3000 :/)

When I load them up, the game runs perfectly for about 1 minute, then slows down to a snail's pace (even if I minimise the game and go back to my desktop, my mouse cursor lags to the point of nearly freezing, which doesn't happen to me very often). If I load the task manager, it tells me that the program has stopped responding; this problem seems particularly pervasive when I run Guild Wars.

Where should I look to solve this problem?

maybe its your ram?

maybe you should just upgrade it..
just get a stick of 512mb...

maybe that would fix it?

Er, sorry... I forgot to outline the system I'm running ^_^;; The RAM shouldn't be the problem because I've already got 512 MB

I also have a Pentium 4 (2 GHz) processor and an Nvidia GeForce FX Go5200 video card. I've owned Guild Wars for a year now, but my problems have only started in the past few weeks, after I installed an update for my graphics driver. I'm not sure that's the cause, though, as I've rolled back to my previous driver since then and that hasn't solved anything.

when a prog stops responding its normally 1 of 3 things: ram, heat or powersupply.

heat is easy to eliminate judging by your specs im guessing you have had the system for a good couple of years. when was the last timed you cleaned inside the case? if the answer is never its probably just clogged up with dust inside. clean all fans and heatsinks and re assemble. make sure you have air intake at the front and bottom of the case and exhaust at the rear top of the case.

ram is slightly trickier. download and run memtest86 (google it im too lazy to link) see if you get any errors.

powersupply is trickier again so try the other two and if they both come up good then we will look at your power supple then.

my money is on heat

You're probably right, I really never thought of heat! As if just because my computer is a laptop I'd never have to open it up and clean it out (computer idiot here ) I'm gonna try that right away. Thanks!
