try closing down some programs in the system tray by the clock. I don't think zone alarm runs too well with windows XP also. It's hard to read, but it looks like microsoft works is popping up with an error message, try closing that down in the system tray when you run GW and other things.

HP printers don't like people playing games - fact!

Short term solution: before starting GW application, do a Ctrl,Alt,Del and terminate any process that starts with HP.

[edit] I'm an idiot. Looked too quickly and only saw the Hp logo, so assumed it was the common HP printer issues! Didn't realise it was an HP system with its own support software.

Which is probably wonderful.

ps - parts of this edit may contain sarcasm!

I wouldn't uninstall it just yet, if you use it to type your homework or whatever you'll want to keep it, try to remove it from your startup list instead.

Check Start > Programs > Startup and see if there's any Microsoft Office or Microsoft Works stuff, right-click and delete if there is. Then if you restart it won't be running all the time.

Or check in the registry:
Start > Run
type REGEDIT and hit enter
click all the plus symbols to open up the folders to:
HKEY_LOCAL MACHINE > SOFTWARE > MICROSOFT > WINDOWS > CURRENT VERSION > RUN
on the right side of the screen will be a list of all the programs set to run when your computer starts up, find the Microsoft Works and delete it. You'll have to restart and then it won't be running all the time.

Easier way than ducks;

Start > Run > msconfig > start-up List > restart > ignore message (tell it to not pop up again)

No, it won't uninstall it.

When you get rid of any microsoft word programs in the start-up list, it will ask you to restart your computer. When you do you will get a message poping out, just say ok and tell it to not show up again.

If there is no Microsoft Word in the start-up list, then that is not the problem.

What exactly have you tried to reinstall so far? Also, I noticed that there is no Antivirus icon in your tray (although it might be in the < part of your tray icons) do you have antivirus software, and have you scanned for viruses? Have you checked for spyware? I know a lot of the times when you have viruses or spyware your programs pop up with weird errors because the germs are messing them up. Remove the germs, errors stop.
