Default Unusual sound problem

Hi, Im having what seems to be a unique sound problem. Ive recently replaced my HD so had to reinstall windows. Since the reinstall the sound itself is fine as a whole, but certain sounds are playing so quietly thier inaudible. Certain windows sounds such as the IE navigation "click" and teh empty recycle bin sound. Also certain GW sounds are the same, Music, general sounds, and background noise are fine, BUT the rest such as voices, spells, "quest notifacation" and private messages are so quiet I cant hear them.
Ive updated my sound drivers, Reinstalled them again twice, reinstalled DX9c, my windows is fully up to date, and Im out of ideas. Oh and yes Ive thought of adjsting my sound via windows aswell as my speakers.

Any ideas what so ever would be great, because Im stumped.

You could right click on the speaker icon by the clock and click on open volume control, then adjust your volume for everything from there.

Did you change the various sounds from ingame? Since you have control over each sound effect.

Can you give an estimated date as to when this started happening?

Do you have 5.1 surround system? Make sure they're plugged in correctly and the collaberator are correctly set.

I'm having the same problem. I haven't acually tried anything in GW to test out what you've said like the quest thing and whispers, but other voice sounds aren't working but music is. I'd play an MP3 and I can hear the music part fine but I cna't hear the voice very well. I use vent also, and I can barely hear the people talk on there with volume set to max. My sound was working just fine last night, but this morning I turn my laptop on and sign onto vent and can't hear anyone. I've had my fiance play with my laptop and do what he could to try and fix it, too. Nothing's helped at all to make this better. And he's an offical tech, so it can't be anything with my computer itself. But this is extremely bugging me. I'm wondering if something GW did last night did it. It didn't do this until after that update and I restarted..

LOL, this is the problem I have been having for about a week. I haven't noticed anything wrong with sound in Windows itself, since my gaming machine is only used for gaming.

But with Guild Wars, some sounds like when my arrows hit the enemy are just inaudible. Note, it only happens when sound quality is set to maximum. And the problem is intermittent meaning I can set the sound to maximum and only experience problems at times. However, those lapses in sound are bad enough that I've set sound quality to 50%.

I cannot be sure if it's due to some MS patches since MS patches pretty frequently and my machine is set to autodownload.

My sound card's a Creative Audigy 2 ZS.

I've documented that the sound problems are occuring on a Conexant AMC Audio/ Conexant Cx20468 @ Intel 82801FBM ICH6-M - AC'97 Audio Controller

Edit: Further documentation on this issue.

It is occuring on a Gateway laptop running Windows XP SP2 (has all updates) and the issue just began the morning of May 24th after a reboot. The night of May 23rd and all before then there were no such sound issues. There are no device conflicts and sound drivers have been cleanly removed and reinstalled.

With the fact that it's the same issue occuring on multiple systems, it makes me wonder if this is caused by GW.

Did you try setting sound quality to 50%? I don't experience any sound problems when I reduce sound quality.

Out of curiosity, what version of DX are you using? Is it the very latest dated I believe May 2005?

Set the sound "Quality" (ugh) slider to the middle position. Exit GW completely and restart it. This fixes most in-game sound issues. I'm not sure the max "Quality" (puke) setting even works for anybody at all. I get weird bugs even at position 4. Position 5, fuggedaboutit...

There are several threads on this, it's been a problem for months. Now, if THAT doesn't help, you've got a beast of another sort.

I'm going to install the April DX9 on the machine with the issue. some of the problems (buzzing in audio) are fading.

Thing is that this is happening outside of the game for people too.

It's happening on Ventrilo as well. Well, attempting an update of DirectX 9.0c to the April 2006 Runtimes release.
