Default Error7's, Comcast, and you...

for a few days now, i've been plagued by unceasing GW crashes, usually occurring every 20 minutes or so. apparently, there're one or more bad hops from my PC, through the Comcast network, to the A.Net network. hopefully, people more technically savvy than i will have this situation properly dealt with. however, for the moment, switching your Territory from the US to Europe seems to be quite an effective quickfix.
what's that, A.Net, i've been playing for 3 hours? well hell, i believe i will take a break

if you bothered to read the other threads you would see Anet is not at fault for Alter.nets dropping packets all over

that makes as much sense as comcast dropping packets and blaming you

EDIT SO YOU KNOW WHO ALTER.NET IS.

AlterNet, aka UUNet is part of Verizon. We're not talking about a lowly ISP that you get your connection from, but one of the big boys, a Tier One carrier, the top of the ISP food chain. According to wikipedia, they are one of only 9 IPv4 (Tier one) ISPs in the world. If you read through the Tier one article, and each ISP, you'll realize that all of them (except Nippon) are in some way US companies (although not in all ways; but definitely in terms of where some of their physical network is). Almost every other ISP depends on them directly or indirectly for something...

In case some of you don't remember, we had a couple hours back in late October of last year where two of the tier ones (Verio and Level 3) couldn't communicate with each other. Not a particularly fun night, and it was only a few hours.

seek help fromt he GW techs, keep the ticket going, do their troubleshooting tests. The ping/trace test will tell if ALTER.NET is to blame. You have to keep on this, everyone does. The more ppl with this problem, the more tickets....the more tickets...the more trouble...the more trouble, the more tickets for ANET to use....the more tickets at ALTER.NET = A GD FIX!!!!

If it's just been happening for a couple of days and you use their connection restore thing you can restore it to the way it was before... it should have come on your setup disk.

The only problem with Comcast I have had since I've been home is that the cable modem resets randomly when I'm downloading large files.

Other than that I have had no problems playing Guild Wars cept for a few lag spikes mainly due to my lower end computer.

This is not Comcast. I have the same problem on another provider and so do many others. This is a problem with a company called ANET. Im sure that everyone notices that Guild Wars is the ONLY program that is experiencing connection problems. How much more obvious can it be?

I'm with Comcast and rarely if ever got an error 7. I don't think it's Anet either. The only time I ever get disconnected is if my local ISP goes down (which has happened once in the last year) or my PC takes a dump.

Has anyone else tried switching territories? My friend is on Comcast in USA Northeast and is having the same problem.

Anyone else had success switching to Europe?

It is an issue with an tier 1 provider ALTER.NET (VERIZON) and even if you switch to an EU server you will still have to go trough the tier 1 ISP .

you can read about it here
