Well hey, I'm building this new system so I can run most of my games with high settings, but mostly so this baby can still play high settings with the newer games coming out.

Anyways, here's what i plan on getting, and if you have any suggestions or know better parts please leave suggestions, but please let it be an AMD Processor and a ATI Video Card. Budget.. around 750-770 (shipping included)

IMO, this system is pretty decent, with the processor&video card and memory.. just hope the cooling will be enough and hope that extra cooling actually works.

Don't get that Logisys, they've got a bad rep for...exploding. Those X1800XT's supposedly suck alot of juice, so you'd probably want to get something fairly beefy. I'd look into the higher end Enermax, OCZ, Seasonic, and Antec.

The RAM, is not going to run in dual channel as it is a single stick. If you intend to upgrade that to a second one soon after the build, then thats not too bad of an idea. Though I wouldn't reccomend running a single stick for long, if you can help it.

There are better alternatives for cooling, especially at that CFM. One of the better options is the XP-90 w/ a 92 MM Vantec Tornado, loud? Yes, but very high cooling potential.

I'm not a big fan of that processor, as your paying simply for a slightly higher clock speed. Which isn't really anything, as with alittle luck, some patience, and a small amount of skill a person can clear that gap fairly easily.

okay well, I changed the power supply to Rosewill, hopefully it'll be better.. and I changed the ram to Corsair XMS 512, I think i'll upgrade more later on, or I'll just use these 512 Corsair value select ones o.O, hopefully it won't slow down the XMS, and as for cooling.. I'm not really sure which one you were talking about, couldn't find it either. Thanks for the suggestions !

That PSU is horrible!

1. It's a horrible brand!
2. It's got no where near enough amps on the 12v rail to power that X1800XT, with a measly 17 amps!

Rosewill is a bad brand too, try a better brand. NEVER EVER skimp out on a crap/cheap Power Supply, this thing powers your whole PC, you know if you don't have enough Power in your PSU, it can fry part(s), even your whole Motherboard and everything along with it!

Aspire ATX 500w
Dual 12v rail
12v1: 16a
12v2: 18a
34a total. Plenty of juice and future proof.

Also, why get a 3800 Single-Core? You may as well go future proof and get a lot better performance and say, buy a Dual-Core 3800+?

Also, your 1GB G.Skill RAM is PERFECT, do NOT change it!

lightblade: It doesn't matter how much wattage his power supply has, it only depends how much his system uses.

Also, DDR2 only has a minor performance increase, say 4% maximum, barely noticable, don't bother with it at the moment.

Buy the 1GB G.Skill RAM, and if you have enough money now, get another 1GB G.Skill so you have 2GB, plenty, and a beast of a system. If not, save up, and buy another Gig later!

Ewww, please don't buy an Aspire. Simply put the wattage and amperage is almost always either a lie or a figure taken from the absolute best case scenario, which as we all know is not the normal operating conditions. Meaning that they are cheaply made, to say the least. You also cannot just add the two 12v rails, as they are not syncronous, meaning that they do not work together as one to power any one component of the system.

The comment about 35 - 40 dollars a month from the PSU alone is wrong, plain and simple. I've had my computer running 24 / 7 for almost the entire time i've had it put together, and my electricity bill has not changed much, at all.

I assume he didn't go dual core simply because the cheapest AMD dual core is roughly $300.

The 1GB is fine, only if he decides to upgrade to a second stick in the near future. If not, then 2 x 512MB sticks would be a better choice. Simply because dual channel performance is nice. If you intend to upgrade to 2GB vai purchasing a second stick of the same, then I agree.

DDR2 is pointless to consider, as the only AMD platform that supports it is AM2, which is a complete waste of money at the moment. I would be extremely impressed if anyone could notice the performance, period.
