Default Set Priority in Windows Task Manager

What does this mean? Is Gw.exe suppose to be on low?

I was checking all this, and I see that GW really eats up the CPU. Any idea what this is?

EDIT: If I set Gw.exe on high would it run better? faster? or what?

All games tend to eat 100% of CPU power they can get to run the game at max speed, so there's nothing unusual there.

GW is kind of odd/tricky when it comes to the process priority, GW is normally on 'Normal' priority when the focus is in GW itself, but when you alt-tab off from GW, it automatically drops it's priority to 'Low', so there isn't a way to force GW run at higher priorities.

Also, setting the priority 'high' would not make GW magically go faster. The priority is just the order how Windows manages the programs. For example, if you happen to be converting some CDs into MP3s, and playing GW at the same time, these two processes would run at 'Normal'. GW would lag somewhat as it can't get enough of CPU power. But when you set the MP3 conversion for 'BelowNormal' or 'Low' priority, Windows assigns more CPU power to GW (or rather, makes the MP3 conversion demand less), thus making the game lag a lot less, but of course, making the MP3 conversion slower.

Games will generally set themselves to low priority - they'll take any cycles they can get, but not if something else needs them more urgently.
Don't mess with priority unless you have to.

lol, you just happen to be unlucky with the fans mate. if you got the extra money, grab a case with 2-3 fans in it already, and a zalman cpu fan and heatsink(zalman is a good all around brand, and you can get their fan and heatsinks for around 20-40 dollars. Check out newegg.com if you want to look at some). these should be extremely quiet, they usually are.

im running an NZXT nemesis elite case. it has 3 fans in it and all are super quiet. im running a zalman led fan and heatsink on my proc as well. i mainly got the led version to match the blue glow on my fans, but it is super quiet as well. you do have to remember though, no matter what, if you start cranking some programs up and what not, the machine is gonna get a little louder.

also another thing to remember before and if you decide to do this. most if not all processors will lose their warranty if you do not use the fan and heatsink provided. so, if you don't want to lose the warranty on the device, just stick with the fan and heatsink provided.

Lightbulb More info on CPU usage

Guild wars is a relatively medium-demanding game. It may seem like it's taking up lots of your memory and cpu resources, but most programs do this anyway, even smaller less significant programs. This happens because OS is attempting to have the CPU spend the least amount of idle time possible. So when there's another program up, it won't hesitate to dedicate plenty of cycles to somewhat meaningless applications.

No big worries. And you can set the game to any priority: it just means other apps will not have as much dedication from the cpu and will run a little slower.
Oh, and your cpu will explode.

...just kidding.
