Default GW running jerky

Heya guys, I was given a copy of GW yesterday and installed it with no problems. However when attempting to play, the game is very jerky. I'll run a few steps and then it will skip or jerk then two more and the same. Also camera movement is jerky. I run wow and this does not happen. I alt+tabbed out to check my tasks and my processes GW.exe was shooting from 50 somthing to about 99/100 however even when at 50ish I check the performance screen and the processor chart is maxed out. I have also read that GW is very processor intensive but that doesnt help me figure out why the game is running so poorly. I have also attempted at turning all the graphics settings down to low but this did not help.

Here is my system
Athlon 64 3000
1gb Ram
Geforce 6800 gt PCIEX 256mb
80gb HD
Windows XP SP2

Thanks in advance

Mine does the same thing and I have faster hardware. Try turning the sound off.

I will go from 65 frames a second to 3 then back up. And so on. Had no problems before factions. Lower quality has no effect. Even over clocking has no effect. It's a bug, just like the BSoD it has been giving me lately.

OK I uninstalled GW and reinstalled it on a different drive because I was running low on disk space. I thought this may be the cause of the problem. I rebooted and got into the game with no problems. I played for a bit and it started to do the same thing so I logged out and logged into WOw and noticed it was running a little jerky as well. Ithen check my processes and Norton was running active scan. I ended the process and started gw again, this seemed to resolve the problem because the game ran fine for several hours. I quit and went to sleep. When I woke this morning I opened IE and got the error " not enough system resources available" I have never run across this error untill after I installed GW and reinstalled Directx 9. This game is waaay to resource intensive.

There have been some issues with DirectSong and Guild Wars.

Do you have DS installed? If so, maybe check turn of DS.

Good luck!

I am also experiencing this same high CPU usage issue.

I've only noticed it recently, as of the Dragon Festival patches. I was directed to these forums to ask for support. gg tech support.

Here's my email logs ;]

HI AJ,

I can also assure you that disabling the ATI driver service along with
some other services which I have opted to install will not affect this,
as the running services have not changed while playing the game and as I
just mentioned this issue has only been occurring since the last patch.

Thank you for your help, clearly copy/pasted from your Technical Support
handbook. Thank you also for uselessly referring me to the forums. I'll
make sure everyone else who I know is experienced this issue posts a
support request.

Hi AJ,

The only way to get your information to a Dev is to post about it on some of the forums. I would suggest you adjust your paging file. How you do this is by going to START - RIGHT click on My Computer - Properties - Advanced TAB - Performance SETTINGS - Advanced TAB - Virtual memory CHANGE - Custom size - Set Initial size to 0 and the Maximum size to 0 - SET - OK - OK - OK. Restart your system and the defrag the hard drive. Then RIGHT click on My computer - Properties - Advanced Tab - Performance Settings - Advanced TAB - Virtual memory CHANGE - Custom size - Set Initial size to 1024 and the Maximum size to 2048 - SET - OK - OK - OK. Then reboot the system.

And you may want to make sure that there are no other programs running in the background to interfere with the game. To do this go to your START button and choose Run. Type in "msconfig" minus the quotations and hit enter. Once there go to the Services tab. At the bottom of the screen is a box called "Hide all Micrsoft services" Check this box and select the disable all button in the bottom right corner. Then go to the Startup tab and select the disable all button there as well. Then just Apply and Close. When you exit msconfig the system will want to re-boot.

Thank you

Nothing on my system has changed in the past few days. Something was
modified in the patch which is causing this.
*Of course* I'm running the latest drivers. Can we forward this onto the
developers please. I've spoken with numerous other players in-game who
are reporting the same thing, although most of them are too lazy to post
one of these support requests.

Hello AJ,

Thank you for contacting Guild Wars Technical Support.

I would like for you to run a DirectX Diagnostic test on your system. This test (DxDiag) is simple and easy to run. To do so, please go to your Start Menu and then select the Run command. When the Run dialogue box appears, please type in “DxDiag”, without the quotes and click OK. A DirectX Diagnostics window will appear after a few moments. Once it has, please select the “Save All Information” button. This will save the generated output from the report we have just run. Then please attach and enclose the report to this email response. Once I receive it I’ll have a much better understanding of what is going on with your PC.

In the meantime we look forward to your response.

I've been noticing extremely high CPU usage in Guild wars (factions and prophecies) since the last patch, the final day of the festival. currently while alt-tabbed from the game to send this report Gw.exe is reporting 97% cpu in use, and 256MB memory used (memory is normal, cpu isn't )

Is there a fix, or is it being worked on?

Yeah sure it's all the page files fault. It has always used 100% of my CPU and I have ram left to spare. A DirectX Diagnostic test was sent to anet as well.

I personally think the support has no clue and only the dev.s will be able to address the issue.

Anyways I have said enough about the problems, just know there are lots of people with this problem.

Heh, that's what I felt like saying.

I hope the developers notice these forums. Previously it did not use 100% CPU ;(
