Sorry had to bump this issue to.. maybe let the techies know that we, the users of quality sound cards, are getting crazy lag in games and are not at all happy about this.

Been too long anet's technicians. Can't jus expect us to play gw with -nosound or software emulation all the time. [i could at least try to play, if not for the feedback sound it gives..]

Can they at least give us some official statements regarding this issue ?

[When i mean low, i mean getting 15 fps outside shingjea/mattukeep, by myself."]

Put your sound slider in the middle setting, exit the game completely and then restart it. Playing with it in position 4 or 5 is very buggy and resource consuming, and I doubt it'll be fixed in the foreseeable future.

Quite true, putting the sound quality in GW above the middle makes the game run poorly. I run at the lowest quality setting, or the first notch, and my FPS is pretty decent, almost always above 30. I also recommend making sure your hardware acceleration in the windows control panel is set at Basic Acceleration or higher, I tried running it at Emulation and it made all sorts of weird sound problems in GW. See if that helps.

This is definatly an issue that must be addressed.

I am getting 5 fps while in battles with the highest sound quality.
I am getting 10-15 fps while in battles with 0 sound quality.
However, I am getting over 30 fps while in battles with -nosound.

Just press F11 and look at the "Quality" (puke) slider at the bottom of the options screen. Make sure you exit the game and restart after moving it, or weird things may happen.

I have a SB Audigy 2.

I think the problem is with ANet's DirectSound implementation. So the hardware you use is irrelevant.

By lowering Sound quality in game I am able to play longer at higher frame rate, but eventually the lag does return. Such a strange bug.

I hope they fix this soon.

I don't think any of us deserve this, i use to run gw smoothly, but after some odd patches, i am getting bad lag. -nosound software emulation, i know it helps, but huh ? its jus not right for us to stick with it[the proposed solution] when i am using a quality sound card and 5.1 audio system.

I don't think that the new update did anything for me.
I tested the sound after the update.
My FPS is still ridiculously low with the sound on.
When I run into battle i still hit around 7-12 fps.

I did try playing the game with emulation, however, and my FPS was as high as when I used -nosound. There would be a repeating sound problem that would occur though.

nosound: 30-40 fps in battle. 50-60 fps out of battle.
emulation: 30-40 fps in battle. 50-60 fps out of battle.
full hardware acceleration + 0 on quality slider: 7-12 fps in battle 10-15 fps out of battle

I'm running with an X-Fi, and I see very little difference in frame rate on any of the settings. I also have friends/guildmates machines with the following cards: Turtle Beach Santa Cruz, SB Live, SB Audigy 4, Turtle Beach Riviera, and a some various on-board chips. None of them are experiencing these issues.

I'm not saying you're imagining these problems - far from it. But it certainly appears that this is specific to some machines or software configurations - I certainly haven't noticed any common link though. This would make it an extremely difficult problem to solve, I would think.

Have you contacted tech support with these issues? I'd imagine they could collect dxdiag stats and such from your systems - maybe this info could help the developers find a common thread and figure out a solution eventually, even if there's not one right now.

Well, i don't want to theorise but might be the 6800 chip. I have 2 pc's one is a p4 with 5800 XT 512 ram and the other one is p4 3.0 HT with 1 gb ram and 6800 ultra.
Guess what; i can play gw smoothly with my other 5900 XT while in my other 6800 U i can barely move arround ... I think GW doesn't like Nv 40 chip and i think i found out why....

I read this and its true, keep the sound slider on in the middle or lower (The left). I gained a 30 FPS boost from doing this.

Mine use to be 1 off from the right. Sound seems the same as always.

They implemented creative labs EAX 3D sound (vs the previous Microsoft Direct Sound 3d) when you have the highest level of sound quality with the latest patch in GW.

EAX does do a performace hit (more cpu) espically on non-creative cards that support EAX to do 3d sound.

Not related to video card. It's the *new* 3d sound taking up much more resources to run.

Higher end creative cards will most likely not see a big hit... non creative cards and on-board sound with setting turned up will more then likely see the performance hit.

sound problem and low framerate problem is still not fixed for me, to get any decent frame rate i still need to run with hardware acceleration off and deal with stupid broken record chugging noises.

i dont know why they messed around with the sound in the first place and then they cant fix any problems that arise with their new sound.

btw i had nvidia onboard sound before, then i bought soundblaster audigy 4, doesnt matter what card i had, its the same problem.

maybe you could try it with the onboard soundcard (don't know if you have it). you should turn it in the bios and you should disable the normal soundcard.

BTW is it only while playing GW or just with all games

well the onboard worked fine before the sound update (the very first sound update), then it went crappy, then i bought a new soundcard and disabled the onboard ofcourse, its still crappy. the ONLY way to get the frames backup to anything normal is to disable the sound, or disable hardware acceleration.

Both of these have associated problems, nosound = nosound = bad gameplay experience, no hardware acceleration = chugging sounds = bad gameplay experience.

I know for a fact its not a problem with the gfx card, cause ive used another card from my other pc which runs guildwars just fine. And yes i only get bad frames in guildwars, no other games.
