Default Err 58

Hello,

My wife & I are experiencing a very odd problem. On Wednesday we were both playing GW just fine, however Thursday July 27, we are both able to double click the GW client and download the updates, but after typing in our passwords, we are unable to login and get an err 58. Neither of us have changed any settings on our modem or computers, in fact both PCs had been off after we finished playing Wednesday and turned back on to surf the web & play Thursday.

We have Verizon DSL and both connect through a Westel 327W modem/router. We both have Windows XP as well.

Something that appears to be related to this issue is that we can now only view some websites. For instance, after clearing out our cookies and temporary internet files, we can go to yahoo.com, guildwars.com and cnn.com. We cannot go to nytimes.com, google.com, microsoft.com, or unfortunantly guildwarsguru.com (I'm at work atm). In fact, we can go to the GW website, but cannot get to the support section. I am confused as to why we only have partial internet service, as some sites will work and others will not and I cannot figure out any pattern as to why this is.

Yes, I talked to Verizon support for 2 hours. About all they had me do was reset the modem. They claim their line test is fine.

Since both my wife and I are experience the exact same problem, I suspect it is either the modem itself, or something on their side. If it helps, I live in Fredericksburg, VA in case anyone else is experiencing the same problems.

Thanks.

I wouldn't worry about this error. I was having the same issue.

Because there was a massive patch released and with the number of people trying to download it at the sametime, it was making the game servers slowdown and suffer.

I kept getting this error but it went away after a while.

To fix it I loaded the game, and left in on the username/password screen till the yellow lighting bolt went away.

It then started working.

Simply put the issue was caused by A.net servers being overloaded, not anything to do with you or your wife's computer connections.

Once the massive numbers of downloading is complete, most likely things will carm down again.

Thanks for the replies so far. After reading a few other threads, it appears I'm not the only one with the GW issue.

The part that really confused me with this is that I couldn't go to certain websites as well as log into GW. I can understand the server load not letting me into GW, so I let it sit at the login screen and download everything. What I couldn't understand was why I was not able to go to just certain websites. Well, hopefully this'll all be resolved soon. I really don't care that much about nytimes.com, but I couldn't even check my hotmail or download microsoft updates.
