Default Whatever it is, its NOT a memory issue...

Why is it not a memory issue, you ask?

Because this stick worked fine in another comp.

Because the stick that was in this comp works fine in other said comp.

I also do not overclock, and when I upgraded my comp the power supply was messed up, so i replaced that... so it shouldn't be a power problem...

(What happens is that Guild Wars crashes, and gives me the hardware error popup, even before i finish downloading updates.)

Since its too big to attach, a DXDiag...

Have you had any issues at all with other programs crashing, or getting Blue Screens? no Hard Drive noise you can hear?

Just my fan...

No, programs rarely crash on my computer. The only one that does is Spring, which crashed once, and scared Windows into shutting down! (Amusingly, this works...) However, Spring is in beta, so... you can't really count that.

The error message/code you get upon crash might be helpful.

The only thing i see is the minimal memory you're running with a quite small page file size as well. You could perhaps increase the pagefile size to 1024 and see if your still having issues.

"Page File: 317MB used, 299MB available"

NC Soft Support suggests that you increase that.

Min- 2048
Max- 4096

In your case:
Min- 384
Max- 1024

And since you have more than one Hard Drive, put it on the one of the other drives to increase performance.

You can't just remove the memory as a potential problem, simply because it works in another computer. Have you run any memory diagnostics programs on the ram? Things like Memtest or Prime95 blend? I can boot into Windows with my memory at 300Mhz, does that mean its stable? No.

not to mention that different motherboards have different memory requirements, sometimes right down to the brand of memory being used. You have an SiS chipset on your motherboard, what make / model is the board itself?

What he said :P
Is your RAM compatible with your motherboard?

Current Mode: 1280 x 1024 (32 bit) (60Hz) with a 9600 SE is very hard on the card. I would try 1024x768.

Memory: 256MB RAM Page File: 317MB used, 299MB available Page file is crazy small. I would at least double it. You have the room go 4GB page file with no lower limit. De fragment the drive before and after changing the page file.

Unless your drives are on different IDE controllers having a pagefile on the second drive will do little to nothing performance wise.

To rule out any memory problems run memtest86 in dos. This is almost the defacto for testing ram. Prime 95 can test your computer in windows to see if there is any heat or calculation problems.

You could buy generica ram, get 1GB or 512MB for under 100$.

good idea, probably the cheapest good upgrade is your RAM. i didn't notice you were only running 256. get a 512 to go with it MINIMUM. get what you can afford withouth breaking the bank. i run that same video card on my home built p4 2.4ghz box, that is about 4 years old. i have a gig of RAM and i'm doing great with GuildWars. i run it at 1280 as well, and get around 100FPS tops and a minimum of 40FPS so it's smooth for me on the highest settings. i've only once experienced fps drop down to 8fps, but it was because Norton was doing it's scan at 2am, like it was supposed to, and i wasn't asleep like I was supposed to.

sorry, i was gone for a while and have been playing it on my bro's comp (as our memory has been switched for a while, and it runs well)

a note on the memory: THIS IS NOT MY TYPICAL STICK OF RAM! my normal memory is 512 MB

that said... its in my bro's comp...

the reason my page file is so low is because (get this), PlayNC's tech support told me to lower the min to RAM size and the max to twice the min... worthless...

the quote from the error is: "Guild Wars has detected a possible hardware malfunction. This may be due to a faulty processor or memory chip. The application will now terminate."

I have passed both Prime95 and memtest86...

1280 x 1024 (32 bit) (60Hz) with a 9600 SE is very hard on the card. I would try 1024x768
thats my desktop resolution... what does that have to do with my game? I run GuildWars at 1024x768...

I have an ASUS ASROCK P4S55FX (yes its SiS-compatable), and i don't see why RAM wouldn't be compatible...

at this point, i no longer care about performance, i just want to play on this comp too...

Heres what the website says:

Oops--what happened? I was playing Guild Wars and this page suddenly popped up!

Guild Wars has detected that your system is experiencing a hardware malfunction and has opened up this Web page to help you resolve the problem.

How did Guild Wars detect the problem?

Guild Wars conducts certain system tests to verify that the hardware is responding correctly. When Guild Wars has idle time, it tests your system by running a set of common mathematical operations, such as addition and multiplication, and then it checks the results against a table of correct answers. When we get an incorrect answer, this reveals a problem with your computer's processor or memory.

Why does it happen?

We’ve worked very hard to optimize Guild Wars to take advantage of modern hardware and to bring you the best performance within a fantastic gaming experience. Even with optimization, however, Guild Wars uses a lot of resources. This means that while other games might work fine on your computer, Guild Wars might not. Thus, your computer is experiencing some sort of system problem that is causing a lockup or other failure.

What types of problems occur and how do I fix them?

Overheating
Over-clocked System
Underpowered Power Supply
Memory Chip Timing Problems
How do I fix this?

Unstable hardware produces sporadic failures, so you might experience your computer "freezing" or locking up, or it might crash or bring up a blue screen. It’s important to note that these problems are caused by hardware failure rather than a software bug. You should take steps to address your system's hardware problem so that you don’t continue to experience these random malfunctions.

Hardware problems are likely to fall into four categories: overheating, over-clocked system, underpowered power supply, and memory chip timing problems. Suggestions on solving each of these categories follow below.

Overheating. Verify that all of your system's cooling fans are working and that the computer is operating in a reasonably cool environment.

Overclocked System. Reduce the level of over-clocking (most often caused when increasing the internal clock values to make the CPU and IO bus speeds run faster than the factory-configured settings). Your system might appear to be stable during routine operations but will fail under a more stressful application such as Guild Wars.

Underpowered power supply. Lots of people upgrade their GPU (video card) without considering the real needs of the card. With today’s high-end cards, a boost in power supply is definitely worth considering and is often necessary to prevent problems. Check the card manufacturer’s specs for the requirements of the GPU and then consider all of the systems that are operating on the same power supply. You might wish to upgrade your power supply.

Memory Chip Timing Problems. If your computer allows you to set memory chip timings, try using a less aggressive setting. Verify that the computer's CAS latency setting is no faster than the memory chip's rated CAS latency. This is the most common reason for a hardware failure and is easily solved with more conservative settings.
If you're sure that none of these situations apply, please call your computer manufacturer and request their help in solving the problem.

That do anything for you?

Why is such a simple game so hard to play? It is the only game I can think of that tells you your hardware is not good.

I think it's quite nice for a game to say ''Hay you might have some problems in your computer, better check things up before stuff start exploding"... People rarely run any diagnostics otherwise.

I'd run Memtest86+ and Stress Prime 2004, those two should reveal any memory/CPU problems. The problem can be in the motherboard as well.

I had magical-mystical hardware problem myself. Games worked. Everything worked. But when I watched different kinds of xvids/vidx's etc other compressed video, computer would crash within 2-30 minutes. (There occasional bluescreens during games as well, but they were quite rare). Running Stress Prime didn't reveal any problems. Then I shut down the computer, let it cool down, then started it up, ran stressprime. Calculation error. Ran it again. Error. And again.. no errors for 24 hours. Shut the computer down, allowed it to cool, started it up. Ran stressprime, error. Again, error. Then, again, 24 hours without any errors.

What was this magical-mystical flaw? Motherboard. Power supply components were flawed more or less, and when they were cool, caused the processor to do stuff wrong. Once they heated up there wasn't any problems at all. Apparently decoding video was slow enough to allow the system to cool down and crash, where as games ran it hot enough for the problem to stay away.
