Default Sounds aren't working as of new update, August 3rd, 2006

The melee weapon sounds, along with other attack noises from wands, staves and any melee weapon, do not play (so far) while in the middle of a battle. At the start, when I come up to a group of enemies, the sounds play fine. But midstway through, the sounds will not occur until they rest of the enemies are dead. Would anyone be able to explain my problem?

Same here, sounds are missing or very delayed (by 10 seconds or more sometimes).

Worked fine before todays update. Changing the slider doesn't do or change anything either.

Nforce sound card, most current drivers on all hardware... the usual trouble shooting hasn't done anything either.

dxdiag and moving sound accel down or up does nothing. Unchecking and checking the 3d sound option does nill as well.

Fix Please.

From the update notes today:

"Fixed a bug that caused crackling sounds and static on some sound cards."

Funny, I now get exactly those symptoms, after the patch that supposedly fixed them for other people...

In a game last night, I was rapidly pinging to draw attention and then the pinging sound stopped working even though the radar still registered it.

I chuckled to myself thinking it was some kind of anti-spam mechanism Anet implemented...

...Well, new update, but not a fix. This is a bummer, especially for my monk character: I can't tell if someone's being attacked half the time, since the weapon sounds are my first and biggest cue.

same thing happened to me, I turned off 3d HW accel. and the sounds came back, not as nice but at least i can the slashing of swords and such.

FYI, I've had 3d HW Accel and EAX enabled since the tabbed f11 menu went into affect and I had all the the sounds.

ps restart gw after u turn off the 3d HW accel, u might have to do it twice the first time i was experimenting by just turing off the EAX and when i logged on EAX was enbale, mine u I turned off EAX at the log in screen.

hope your sounds comes back

I'll pass these along and post back here if our sound expert programmer guy, Jim, has any insights for you!

Just going to add that my GW now sounds like a bowl of Rice Krispies. I'm still getting the allegedly "fixed" issue of "cracking and popping."

My sound card is a Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS and the driver is from 8/25/2005. Admittedly that is an old driver, but it's had zero issues with GW until the last few updates.

I can only hear my player based sounds myself. I can not hear other player based sounds at all. That includes people raising Minions and casting spells. Only time is when I am dead and observing them.

I'm also having the same problems. I actually have all the sounds turned off now until they fix this. I can't stand those weird sounds. Winamp ftw

Yea, I had this same problem after the update. I reduced my sound quality and that seemed to help for now. Hope they fix it, though.

Same problems here to!

Since the first Nightfall/PvP Update (or what it was) i have had:
1: Clicking sounds
2: Lower/Higher and sharper effects that dosn't really fit in, like on attacks, spells, voices ect
3: Just irritating noise in general

Hope it will be fixed soon!

Occasional cracking and popping occurring after the update, that have never been encountered before. A fix would be appreciated

I have no battle sounds apart from my attacks hitting/my character being hit, and a lot of monster sounds do not play either. Anet support suggested I delete my gw.dat file and start over, and while paying for another 2.5 gig of Australian traffic is highly appealing I thought I'd wait and see how things turn out.

The reason I am posting here is to ask if any of the people who have lost these sounds are now getting performance issues in the Ring of Fire islands from Prophecies? I started getting very noticeable pauses there this week also.
