Hi peoples.
I asked someone with a lagre amount of experience in troubleshooting computers, and they suggested I check for conflict and new audio drivers.
I checked, all are fine and most recent. But the problem persists!

The problem:
Media players work fine, such as WMP or itunes
but other things, like:
google video, skype, error messages's "clunk" sound when the dialouge box comes up, the volume gets adjusted, does that same "clunk", guildwars sound, even the intro music on runescape<--dont laugh, i like it

What it does is basically vibrate the sound. it is still intelligible, just almost incoherent. plus, it slows way down. a sentence that takes 5 seconds to say may take 5-10 for me to hear entirely. on skype, people can hear me fine.
i cant seem to record the noise...the computer mic on my headset doesnt pick it up, or else id send an example.
if this sounds like crazytalk to you, sorry...dont know how else to describe it.
-->This never seems to happen when I havnt been running GW, but will continue even if I exit, and even starts after GW is exited. I assume that it may be the cause, but I am not completely sure it is GW fault.<--

And, heres the System:
I have a HP Pavillion, ZV 6100 (notebook)
64bit Processor, 3200 amd ~2ghz
Ati x200m 128 id card
128 dedicated v-ram, 1270
XP Professional SP 2, office 2003

now the part i assume is important:

Coenexant AMC audio (driver: camc6aud.sys)
version 6.14.0010.0510
reinstalled and upadted last week sometime

This is the zip of 2 files, one of the error "thunk" you get, and the other of the same error thunk, after sound goes screwy.
what sets it off, and what akes it stop is a mystery to me. it started n the middle of a skype conversation the other day, and today, it had started and then just suddenly stopped. annoyingly random!

Don't take my word for it since im not exactly an expert at this kind of stuff but it sounds to me like the actual sound card is damaged. I recommend picking a PCI one up (Make sure it is a soundblaster) for about $30 and you should get better quality and no more problems with the audio.

Well, it is a laptop, and i really dont wanna dig around in its innards.
as for actual damaged card, windows media works fine, dvds work fine....
its just a few things that go all crazylike

It sounds like this is played by an audio waveform that's stretched to twice it's length, but without any smoothing or interpolation. But what could cause this is beyond me - it definitely sounds like a driver bug. Just because you're using the latest drivers doesn't mean it's bug free.

Have you tried lowering Windows hardware acceleration to see if this corrects the problem? Some drivers work better when more of the audio load is processed by the CPU.

i looked for hardware acceleration, and all i found was video acceleration.
any clues?

1. make sure you have latest version of DirectX

2. go to command line, type dxdiag
click the audio page, check the acceleration progress, try to tune it

Open the control panel and open up Sound and Audio Devices. You should see an Audio tab. Click this, then under Sound Playback, click the Advanced button. Click on the Performance tab in the dialog box that popped up, and now you should see a slider controlling audio hardware acceleration.

Try moving this down notch by notch and see if any of the settings work better for you. If you turn it all the way down, you'll essentially turn off DirectSound and may cause sound stuttering issues in GW, so be warned.

took it down a notch. no difference. then 2 notches. still nothing

Ah, too bad. Have you tried turning acceleration off completely? Some skipping might be better than what you're hearing.

Heach mentioned installing the latest version of DirectX - not a bad thing to try... Unfortunately, I'm not sure much can be done about an apparent driver or hardware issue like this. I suppose you do have the option of buying a USB or PCMCIA sound card, but that kind of stinks.

Have you tried contacting HP tech support about this? It may be a known issues with this particular model, and they may have some solution.
