that is just the updates of the game that are not on the CD's. but the 3143 remaining files aren't really much because mostly they just need to be unpacked and not downloaded all. you need to download like 1500 files of a couple bytes and that files need to be unpacked. If the downloading/unpacking is ready you can make a backup of the big file were you have installed GW then the next time you install gw, you just replace the installed file with you backup

Instead of downloading it as you zone; you can do it all at once. Just leave the game client open at the login screen and a little lightning bolt will pop up in the upper right hand corner. That means it's downloading all the zone maps and what-not. Go eat lunch or something and when you come back you should have everything.

Another option would be to right click the GW icon, go to properties and click the shortcut tab. On the left of the "C:\Program Files\Guild Wars\Gw.exe" type a space and then -image, click apply, ok and start it up again. It will proceed to download and unpack all necessary files. When it's done go back and remove the -image switch and it should start up like normal again, and you'll never have to download or unpack anything while loading an area.
