Recently in the past month I have been having a problem. Typically when ANet sends out a new patch or update.

I have a shortcut icon on my desktop just like most others. When I double click or right click then go to open the small grey box that says Guild Wars pops up. It has a down load bar that either slowly goes from 0 to 100% or goes instantly to 100% depending on if we had a recent update or not. Then that box will go away and a second later another identical box will appear that usually says decompressing files on the bar. Then once that bar hits 100% the main GW log in screen appears. Now that is the way it used to work.

Now in the past month when I try to open GWs the first box will appear and make it's way to 100% then it will go away......then the problem. The second box will NOT appear and the hour glass will go away and the main log in screen never appears. It pretty much just quits. After that I can click on the short cut, right click, or even go into programs but no matter what I do GW will not come up. The hour glass just spins for a second then goes away. Usually I have to restart my pc then it may come up or may not work. Sometimes it takes 2-3 restarts to start to work again.

have you tired that? the -dx8 command? how does the game run in a window view (not full screen)?
