Have a p4 2.8 HT was told it could be heat (spent 50 dollars on a beetle cooler) and a couple more exhaust fans.

Was told it could be RAM went from 1GIG to 3 Gigs.

Was told it could be power went from 300 watt to 580.

Was told it was the onboard sound. Bought and audigy 2

Finally was told it was my 9800Pro overheating bought an ATI silencer cooler.

SO....if simply rolling back this driver fixes my lockups be looking for me
what kind of motherboard do you use? I hope this fixes the problem. I wish more people who did roll back drivers could post their results. If any of you are wondering where I got this information. I was browsing the ASUS forums thinking it might be my bios being out of date. Then I came across this info and well it's been the best thing to happen since I purchased GW

First off Systems do not come preloaded with Windows x64 so either you have a high end system that cost a wod or you spent extra money on something that will not help you at all. If you did well Im sorry to say that you are not going to get much of a gain, not even better compatability.

Secondly Guildwars is designed to run on a 32 bit platform not a 64 bit one. It is plainly stated that guild wars Does not support 64 bit windows enviroments. Read the Tech support page . . . help yourself.

Hi there,

silly question I know but is the Marvell Yukon an ethernet port? If so were you running Guild Wars on this port? If not and simply having dodgy drivers installed on caused the problem then what would happen if I simply uninstalled the Yukon drivers completely?

btw I am having the random blackout problems can't work out solution at all!!

Also curious what kind of motherboard are you using?

Hi,

Im using a Asus A8N-SLi Deluxe which has 2 ethernet ports the MARVELL PCI Gbit LAN controller and a Nvidia N Force Network Controller.

Ive tried updating and rolling back both sets of drivers. Since reading this post and trying different things I currently have the Marvell uninstalled and Im using the Nvidia port, however the game still crashes.

I had a simular problem with mXo which went away with a game update. Ill keep trying different things.

I bought a new computer just a week ago and I loaded up guild wars on it and had this problem: goes to blue screen and says critical error update BIOS. I immediately thought it was the computer overheting because it was a laptop and I never once heard the fan come one, but the computer didn't even feel warm. I eventually sent it back to dell since it was new I figure they will fix it. But does it sounds like that could have been my problem? If so is it possible to roll back a driver if the only driver on there is the newest one?

My problem was different as my machine would simply "freeze"....lockup while in the middle of an action in guild wars and I would be unable to do anything: move, move the mouse, ctrl alt del anything. I would have to power down using the off button. The lockups were also very sparatic could take 5 min could take 2 hours. This driver rollback seems to have worked. 3 days now and not a lockup.

When a computer tells you you need a BIOs update then it is good to update it. Most of the time there is no real need to update the BIOs. Dell should have had your BIOs updated in the first place. Updating a BIOs is not hard, but it can be tricky. Why not have Dell update like you did that way if they mess up the update then they will replace your motherboad.

This is why I also pay extra for the Floppy Drive. To me it is the best way to update a BIOs. That is the only real reason I still have Floppy Drives on all my computers anymore.

bump don't want this thread to get lost. since it helped several user's with their problems. Just to follow up, GW has yet to lockup or reboot on me since I did this fix. Before this I was about to uninstall the game because I was fed up with the constant lockups.

I actually have this card, and it was at a lower version and disabled. I tried to upgrade to the latest drivers just now from the Marvell web site. I'm just wondering... if the card is disabled would you still have this issue?

My computer would totally lockup too.
