Default Non-related GW issue... help me anyways please?

This is non-gw related, but I don't see why I can't post it anyways...

Here's the story:

I was looking for a new dvd drive for my computer back in june, I saw one at Best Buy so I bought it. Took it home, installed it, and then installed the crappy software that came with it. Well, this software took all my files and, without my permission, converted them to a different filetype so they only opened with some crappy media player that came with the software...

So I said f no. I uninstalled that crap and got a refund. I then bought a drive from newegg for much less, and no take over software. Well, much to my dismay after installing the drive my computer was not detecting it... in fact, my computer was not decting a driver for the drive at all... ZMGWTF?

I researched it a little and found that sometimes when you uninstall software that comes with these drives, it doesn't completely remove it's self from the registry, which messes everything up apparantly. So, I also found a registry patch that would supposedly correct the problem, which it in fact did. After merging the file into the registry everyone worked perfect and I was able to use my new drive just fine.

Now here's the problem. Lately whenever I try to play a CD with my computer, after a few minutes everything completely freezes. The only way to fix it is to manually reboot. I suspect the reason for this is something wonky with that registry patch I merged...

Now, I am *NOT* very computer literate. I have no idea how these things work really, so I don't know if this will help or not, but this is what the file I merged into the registry contains:

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}]
"UpperFilters"=-
"LowerFilters"=-

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\Cdr4_2K]

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\Cdralw2k]

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\Cdudf]

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\UdfReadr]

So, my question is:

1) Is there any other causes that would make my computer completely freeze up when I play a CD with the drive?

2) If the registry file I used is in fact the problem, how can I correct it? If you need more info I can get it.

1) No idea, DVD/CD drives arent my strong point

2) The best offer i have for you right now that i think would most likely do the trick is to System Restore back to the point BEFORE you added the registry tweak. Imo you shouldnt mess with the registry unless you really know what youre doing, it can mess your pc up if you get something wrong.

system Restore can be found in Accessories -> System tools. Just restore before the date you added the registry tweak.

That will put me back at square one though... and I wont have a working drive... Also Im not looking foward to re-downloading the huge GW update and all the other stuff I've "aquired" since I made that change.
