Default Gw.dat

My gw.dat file recently went from 3gb to 5.3, it happened when i downloaded the 25k files a couple of days ago. How do i get it back to normal size?

thanks

Well, if you managed to somehow revert back to the original size, wouldn't you have to download those files and increase the size of the file again?

Just a hunch.

GW.dat should be around 3GB atm, atleast mine won't go past that even with -image switch. Older installs will be larger than that (having all the previous event data), but over additional 2GB? I don't think so..

Delete the file, and add -image onto the GW shortcut, or leave the client open overnight if the size is somehow problematic.. *shrug*

Probably not decompressed all your files yet.

Its fun to repeatedly quote yourself :P

A complete image with ALL data (Prophecies, Factions and Nightfall Preview) is currently 2.6 Gigs.
Everything above this includes useless data.

Won't GW delete the useless files?

It is said over time it will.

Took ages for me to go from 6GB to 5.5GB that way though...

So I prefer the fast one-time solution.

5.3 isn't that bad. Especially when the new flight simulator is going to require at least 14 gb of hd space.

I tried what you suggested Therlun but I still have to download over 80k files I've downloaded everything with -image. I guess I'll wait till it gets smaller by itself. thanks anyways

Space is always an issue. Especially wen you have fat programs and a thirsty OS that needs much space.

I do not see the down falls to having a large GW.dat file, especially if you have been playing since betas, and have all that information stored on you humble PC.
Mine id relatively small ocmpared to some of your's as I have only played since December of 05'
