For what it's worth:
A couple months ago I developed terrible lag in GW, and had a lot of err7 disconnects. Nothing else involving the internet seemed to be affected, so I assumed it was on GW side. To make a long story short, the true issue was that my cable modem had begun to fail, and was losing packets because of low signal-to-noise ratio. Failed packets get re-sent, so the effect in most cases is an apparently slow connection. However, GW seems to be especially sensitive to packet loss, particularly at certain points, such as going through portals and other cases where you get handed off to another server. Thus, a huge rise in err7 problems.

Replacing the modem solved all lag and err7 problems. Apparently, they are only rated for a couple of years if you leave them on all the time, and any lightnig surge can damage them. Just something to think about.

I had same problem last year. But right now, this isn't local problem, since people are dropping left and right. It's server-side problem. Every single match in FA at least one person drops. And this isn't a new thing either. It happens all the time in elite missions where it's not uncommon for someone to drop out every 30 minutes.

Even more, people connecting over fixed lines, campus connections, direct backbone connections, ADSL and dial-up modems are affected.

I am sure that if everyone that's having this problem went out and shelled out money for a new modem, hoping to fix it...there would be a lot of disappointed people out there. It may have been a modem issue for you, but for everyone else to start having trouble with their modem at the exact same time, and to have the exact same problem, kinda says it's a different problem alltogether...

Well, I wasn't suggesting that everyone go replace their modem right away... the point was to run some tracert and ping tests to see what kind of packet loss you get to a GW server. Even a 1-2% error rate may be causing a lot of err=7. But I certainly agree there are many cuses of the problem; this is just one more thing to check.

I am the first to say if I 007 due to an issue on our side. As we have a dsl connection and cable modem it doesn't appear to be on our side. It is truly so bad at the moment that GW is unplayable for me.

When you have a 12 man team in the deep from around the world and everyone 007's at the same time it is a bigger issue then just someone with a bad connection.

Been there done that does not fix a thing, I have three different
modems now, and they all do the same thing, also two interent
connections, cable and fiber, they both do it, the Fiber is better
IMO, I could imagine our company not telling our customers when
there is a problem and then not giving an answer when
they ask, we would not be in business today, very poor customer
relations, but I wonder if all game makers are the same way ??

There's more places for the lag and err7's to come from than just your connection, and anet's servers. It could also easily be anet's upstream provider.
