I had this happened a few times last week while I was monking in HA; AND my teammates.

The game would load perfectly fine, but a few of my skill buttons won't load up, instead it was it was an hourglass. OK. To make matters worse I know what the skills are and when I click on it... it *DoEsN'T* activate!!
aarrgghh..
Yes it's not the end of the world, it only happened few times (like 10-15 times in the range of 4 days), but it was annoying bigtime -- we were shouting a bit in vent

P.S. I never had my sound effects screwed up on any skill; nor any *weird* effects while activating any skill

Game developers usually don't have a choice about when to publish. They have a contract with a publisher that requires them to have it out at a certain date, and they meet it whether a game is ready or not.

You'll see a lot of published games come out that feel rushed or incomplete, and it's because they are. Very, very few companies have the financial resources to release their products when they are done - those that do, like ID or Blizzard, have good reputations because their products, well, aren't rushed.

It's a shame, too, because the rushed games could have had potential but basically are relegated to junk or play-once status when people realize they're rush jobs. Plus the financial models never permit them to finish after the fact - just to patch out gamebreaking bugs. So many games coming out these days that are rushed piles of crap with lots of eye candy trying to make a buck off of first week sales - so few games with any lasting play value.

Peace,
-CxE

/signed, well half-signed...

its an annoying little glitch, but hardly one id call game breaking. annoying? yes. bothersome? yes. a problem that needs to be adressed? yes.

but i see where the anet guys are coming from. its much more important for the company to get the next chapter out than it is to fix the partical engine issue. i cant fault them for wanting to run successful company and make a tidy profit.

besides, aside from being a little frustrating, its not affecting me at all. i can still interupt just fine with my ranger or a mesmer, heal with my monk, nuke with my ele, mm and ss with my nec, or spike with my warrior or sin. not that big a deal, just a bit of an annoyance. heck, the lag is the real bitch right now anyway.

and remember, its all just a game. if it is really bothering you to the point of ruining the fun of it, take some time off from the game. ive taken several short departures from the game before. it'll be here when you get back, and hell, the bug might be fixed.

For releasing a game that has more bugs in it than your grandma does in her house, and then a month later fix it with a patch.

Is this acceptable to you? Because from your quote, this is what I am hearing you say. I'm hearing you tell me that they need to get nightfall out and then they can just fix it later. come on man, think about what you're saying.

Is PCGamer ok to give a review 50% instead of just putting the patch on the game, THEN review it?

Seriously. Don't waste our time with this ridiculousness.

I, and my fellow gamers here, would MUCH rather they take 2 extra weeks to fix this and all the crashes and whatever else, and fix nightfall, because it has this EXACT same issue as this man, than they focus on making their millions and worry about fixing this in 3 games later.

This is just like a developer to say, "Oh, we'll just release it broke. No worries, we're all good, we'll eventually fix it".

I guess I shouldn't have expected anything else.

others with me on this one?

You really don't have a clue do you...?

-When has Anet ever 'not' fixed a bug? As far as I can recall, the words 'not very often' spring to mind.

-Was the original release buggy? I don't think so. Factions? Not really.

By reputation alone, you should cut them some slack. Resource issues aren't just 'fluff' you know? You think Gaile can simply walk into the dev area, roll up her sleaves and fix the bug herself? As much as I'm sure she'd like to, I doubt she can.
Complaining so frivolously about something that will be fixed by an obviously dedicated company, is bordering on asinine.
Believe me when I tell you that it get's 'far' worse in this industry (as a lot of you have already experienced) and it's not always the developers being 'evil'. It's not an excuse of course. They have to get they're act together, but come on. We all know they will. It's Anet.

So like I said leave them alone and stop calling people when they are supposed to be working. The saddest thing is you actually sound like a professional yourself. You should know better...

Anets got bigger problems on their hands. 1) they have massive lag issues and err7paloozas. 2) they have mssive lag issues and err7paloozas 3) lots of lag and err7's and 4) they are also broke, money wise. they are gunan run out of money cuz they only get money when they sell copies of the game. Meanwhile they need to hire ppls and matian servers. Once they realese nightfall they will get some money but they will soon have to release another expansion to get more money. So stop complianing about a bell/whissel and complain about massive lag issues and err7palozzas.

^^

It's true, I went round to ANets office earlier today and they were all huddled round a large metal barrel, burning old manuals of Prophecies to keep warm, because they couldn't afford to put the heating on. I asked Gaile when they were going to fix the lag/errors/skill delays (problems which are probably all related) and she said that most of the dev team were out on the streets busking for spare change to keep the servers running.

oh yeah...I KNOW what you are talking about.....cant hear nothing, cant see stuff until after it happens.....try being an interupter!
and my ele and meteor shower----takes 10 full seconds from mouseclick to first rock dropping.....most monsters are dead before then, and I am incapacitated for 1 or 2 seconds after I launch. great just wonderful.

wont even let my mesmer play until this is fixed.

and just what is the OTHER team doing???? we know that team 1 is working on nightfall, what about the horrible factions team, hm hm hm????

its close to unplayable for those classes.....my monk only has problems when she first starts out, my ele always has the problem.

so its a big issue---enough for them to get working on it right away, instead of doing yet another stupid double weekend......arrrgggh, fix the problems folks dont make more until you do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Here is the truth:

I got a phone call from someone, out of the blue, asking me to deal with a customer/technical support issue. I listened, I was kind, but dear lord, I wasn't happy having to spend 30 minutes listening to a rant, especially when, as I told the caller repeatedly, the issue was being investigated not by one but by several people on the team!

Not, "We're too busy."
Not, "We have a game to get out and money to make." (As I was "quoted" as saying elsewhere.)
Not, "We don't intend to fix this, but will leave it this way."
Instead, I said, "We're aware of the issue, we're sorry for the inconvenience, and we'll give it as soon as we can."

Is that "political?" Heck no, it's just truth!

I patiently gave the honest reasons behind why we could not change it immediately, having to do with not wanting to risk an issue with the Live Builds immediately preceding the World Preview Event. That's a logical thing, right? You don't try an elaborate new recipe when you're expecting company. You don't mess with builds--not matter that there is an issue (as long as it's not a game-breaking issue, which this is not)--when you have a massive event coming, even while you catalogue the bugs and get to them as quickly as you are able afterwards.

Excuse me being a little disturbed by being "tracked down" and being phoned during a meeting on a non-public number. Pardon me if, at the end of nearly 30 minutes of circular discussion, you were no more happy than when you first called. But when you asked me to comment--to communicate with the community--and I said I did not care to do so, it was not at all because of the reasons you allege.

I do not want to validate the "Telephone Gaile" idea. I was, and am, and the entire team is, extremely uncomfortable with someone "tracking me down" and demanding 30 minutes of my time for an issue over which I have no control, an issue on which they are working, and an issue that Support has relayed to ticket submitters is being worked on. Shall I spend my day on the phone, listening to individual player's complaints, when there is much that the community as a whole needs? It's not my job to take your call. But after having done so, it's incredibly rude for you to misquote me, to allege motivations and I and my company do not hold, and to do so while still maintaining you are "the representative of the players."

Oh my heavens, you actually called up someone at a company who does her best to help this community, is not a developer, is not the publisher, who has an input but can't implement and harassed her for 20 - 30 minutes over a problem that is not hers and is completely out of her hands to fix? I can't believe she didn't hang up on you immediately.

You are a customer, yes. But you have no right to track down anyone by any such means. I'm pretty sure Gaile Gray's number is not public for a reason and to just go to such an extreme measure not only hurts the case in a communities eyes but is beyond appalling.

You sir, stepped over the line.
