Angry After last patch, the game is crashing if I close it with "X"

After last patch, the game is crashing (frozen, I need restart PC) when I hit X (up-right corner) for close game. Never happened to me that bug in 8 months I have playing.

Edit: I am talking about 20th September patch.

The game is 100% normal, just crash if I use X button for close. I have absolutely no idea why is this happening, crashed 3 times today. I didn't installed any new software, driver, etc., only the 20th September patch. The big problem is when game crash, it froze screen and you can't see desktop to close it, even using Ctl+Alt+Del.

I had the same. Press X and the program freezes and doesn't respond any more. However Ctrl+Alt+Del worked for me, and I ended GW with Task Manager.

I've had that problem for a few months now until about 2 weeks ago when I updated my nVidia drivers to the latest version. I remember reading in one of the stickys about people having this problem (among others) with some earlier versions of nVidia drivers. Until I upgraded my video drivers, my quick fix was to just minimize the game, right click on it in the taskbar and choose CLOSE. This worked for me every time without freezing my system.

So, for testreasons in installed today the newest ATI Driver (Catalyst 6.9) but the "X"Bug is still there. So its not an driverbug.

In my case in found the problem. Its Kaspersky Anti Virus 6.0! When I close the programm I can close GW normally with "X".

But how get I both programms running at the same time without the "X"-Problem?

The problem in Kaspersky is, that the programm has a scanner called "Web-Anti-Virus". This scanner scans the port 80. When you disable the scanning for port 80 you can close GW with "X". If KAV 6.0 scans the port 80 your GW freezes when you want to quit it with "X".

I just restarted my PC AGAIN for this bug

I think is not Kaspersky because I have it a looooooong time ago without that problem. I think something change with the 20th September patch in the way how GW client close.

i am experiencing the same freezing when closing with [X]

i have two machines with exactly the same hardware, one uses WinME and the other WinXP.

the WinME unit has no problems with the game whatsoever.

the WinXP unit, however, cannot close GW if i use the [X] on the log-on screen or choose a character screen. i can however use it to exit the game if i am in game. alt-F4 works exactly the same way. i need to hit the windows key to get the Start button to appear then I can Restart the unit.

i am also using Kaspersky 6.0 on my winXP unit and Kaspersky 4.5 on my WinME unit.

that nightfall patch was god freaking buggy, there's that awful skill hourglass thing and this closing GW bugs among my major concerns. and its been DAYS now. DAYS! i wish i had some option to remove the damned nightfall build from my gw.dat file.

I am confirming that Kaspersky and Guild Wars has incompatibilities, but that incompatibilities started 20th September, why? I don't know. The only you must do is add GW.exe to trusted application on Kaspersky configuration (exclude for virus scan, internet traffic scan, etc)

Now Guild Wars start and close faster, no change in-game. And I think is not crashing anymore.

i had the entire guildwars directory including subfolders placed into the trusted zone for both proactive defense and file scan, ran guildwars full-screen mode and while at the log-in screen pressed [X] ... guildwars froze and ceased responding. had to use the window key again to restart the pc and end task guild wars.

my only option is to open the game windowed mode and switch to full-screen mode once i spawn in a town and play. hitting the [X] at this stage will exit guildwars normally. it only freezes if i close it wth [X] in full screen mode at the log-in screen or the character selection screen.

Perhaps you should disable the scanning of port 80. In my case ist works perfekt. But you are right, i think tis more a problem of GW than of KAV 6.0.
The Sept. 20th patch was and is buggy.

Ever considered playing in Windowed mode? I've done it since the game's initial release and never had that problem.
