Every morning when i start GW the loading screen never mov es past 0% on the: Connecting to ArenaNet screen, anyone else have this problem? The only way i'm able to log in, is to restart the computer and wait for Norton to pop up and allow me to tell Norton to allow all connections

I hate Norton, it caused me nothing but problems when I used it. In the end I ditched it.

However, isn't there an option to add Guild Wars as a permanent exception somewhere in the firewall 'program control' settings? I'm sure there is but can't remember exactly how to get to it though.

I'm getting this problem also.

Norton Is screwed up I believe.

I just fixed it. Open your Norton Internet Security, and go to personal firewall, under programs, Find all 3 Guildwars entries and set them to "Permit All"

Should work fine.

I dont think Norton is screwed up, because this problem only began after either the oct. 12th or 14th update

I've been having the same problem. I re-installed Norton and it helped for a few days. Something with GW is bugging the ccApp file that Norton is using.
Everytime GW has an update it just totally freaks Norton out.

Retribution? Did your fix work? I could have sworn that I had all the GW deals checked as Permit All already.

yep. Mine works fine now.

Try the option Modify, and just pick a random one, and then go back to permit all.

If that doesn't work, select Manualy Configure Internet access.

i have same problem, i am NOT using Norton i have my own firewall/antivirus program which has GW enabled always, didnt have a problem until today, i have made no modifications to my pc setup/software. Even with my Antivirus/Firewall turned compeltely off GW doesnt load. Everything else works fine, other games, internet, ventrilo etc.

I tried it last night and it is still hanging up on me. I went in and manually configured the internet access for GW. Right after that we got an update and it locked up my computer and I had to re-boot. I don't know if it is an issue GW has with Norton or one that Norton has with GW, but I do know that the file that locks up is a Norton file called ccApp. It is very frustrating to have to reboot everytime you get an update. I am ditching Norton when it expires and going with PCcillin I think.

Many of the firewalls released today do Checksums of the files that are sotred and permitted to access the internet. Since guildwars updates frequently its checksum changes frequently. This could easily create a scenario in which the software does not recognise the change and thus denies access or simply considers the applications hostile and also denies access. You sometimes have to go into the software and find and delete the original entries to force the software to create a new checksum. There is probably not a whole lot you can do about it though. I know of no firewall these days that dosn't use checksums as an internal mechanism to monitor software for unauthorized modifaction.

I run into this a lot when I travel. Hotels often have odd settings or problematic wireless connections. I am currently looking at a err=58 message and am out of luck for my stay here. I know it comes from outside as I stopped by an office with my laptop today and connected fine to GW with the same setup. I get to the next location and it works fine, next night, no luck.
