Alright, I just bought a new computer and hooked it up in my room, after getting everything set up I finally install Guild Wars, run it through the updates and what-not and open up a new account in it. I start by making a ranger but then right after I create the character, my whole computer crashes and just restarts itself. When I try to go back into Guild Wars I barely make it past the login screen and back into character creation and then my comptuer freezes, forcing me to restart it and then when I try yet again my computer freezes and I restart. Only problem is that while it is booting up I get a black screen with nothing but "NTLDR is missing. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart". So I press it, but I keep getting that, no changes for the last while whenever I restart. Anyone know the problem and how to fix it? I cant even run my brand new comptuer because of it.

The gamespot website said I could run the game just fine under the minimum and reccomended computer stats. And I'm on a different computer right now by the way.

How far under the minimum is your computer and what OS, and video card do you have?

It's above the minimum, it gets a "pass" for the reccomended stats of a computer.
But I just called someone and he says that the computer cant find the operating system and that I should reformat... cant beleive I'm already reformating a 3 hour old computer...

Hardware errors do occur, but IMO if this machine is 3 hours old Id pack that puppy up and bring it right back where it came from and not get another but get a refund. Its a sign of things to come.I tried the whole bring it back and get another at a few different places around here and I have come to the conclusion that the only safe bet is to buy it online at a tech site where it dosn't have the names Dell, Gateway, Hp or anything like that plastered on the make and model. Heh.

sounds like maybe something overheated at first, or a bad PSU. This was a common bug with GW, and still is (the restarts). The not-finding-os thing is not common at all. It almost sounds like something got fried on the mobo, and isnt able to get through to the OS.
Definitely take it back. Whether or not it is hardware damage, its not worth hanging onto.

Is it an e-machiene? i know they have had problems with PSU's in the past

Overheat, power lack, bugged drivers, bad luck. Can be any of those.

The error you are getting is probably pretty terminal, and you will almost certainly have to rebuild the PC.

However, before you do, make sure that you don't have a floppy disk in drive A: (if your PC even has such a thing) and remove any CDs or DVDs from the drives too as the error can be caused by the PC trying to boot from something other than the hard disk. Also, check in BIOS and make sure that the primary hard disk is being detected, just in case a cable has come loose.

What it probably is though is fairly serious disk corruption caused by the crashes and a rebuild is almost certainly the only answer.

Actually, before you get to crazy, there might be something we can do. Please post your system specs otherwise, if it's a retail machine (like a dell) then best you take it back.

NTLDR is part of the boot process for Windows NT, 2000, and XP.

The first thing to do is remove all removeable disks. Floppy disks, CD's, USB drives, memory cards, everything. Then go into CMOS and double check the boot order. Make sure that HARD DRIVE is #1 on the list.

If it still happens, it means that either your OS is corrupted, or your hard drive has failed/is failing. First listten to the drive while it is running. If it is making any clicking noises, it is bad. Then try reloading Windows. If that fails, it is more then likely the hard drive.

However, if you recently bought it, I agree and take it back. You may have had the bad luck in getting a bad one, or you may have gotten a lemon.

Well, I dont know too much about computers but I know it's an intel, it was bought at a wholesaler though so I have no idea if I can even return it. I'm going to be taking it to the place that installed the graphics card for me and have them look it over to see exactly what's wrong, hopefully it can be fixed without too many expenses.

And I'm hoping I didnt make the problem worse. I was told to put the operating system CD in and using that I repaired Windows XP which the computer read as being damaged but even after that the computer wouldnt work. I can actually run the computer in safe mode now but if I do anything else the computer just flashes a blue screen with grey text while booting up then restarts itself.

And thank you all for the help ^___^ It's less stressing for me now that I know what might actually be going on. But is there any chance that the Guild Wars game might have caused this? The first restart was while I was trying to play GW and then it froze twice when I was in the login and character creation screens. I dont want to have it fixed and then cause the exact same problem by running Guild Wars again.

You have a new video card installed by some other place that you bought the PC from? You might need a better power supply for this new video card..

I'd post the specs but I dont really know much about it, thanks to my mother, I didnt even get to choose it out when it was bought. Anyways, word just came in that the operating system was corrupted somehow and I should be getting the computer back tomorrow. Then I'll just install Guild Wars and hope for the best but if it does happen again I'll probably try to return it and get a new one. Anyone know what could have caused the corruption? Someone said that the restarts could have done it but is there anything else that could cause it?

Lots of things can cause that. Virus, Spyware, bad hard drives, bad RAM, corrupted installation, almost anything.

Take it back, ask for a refund then talk to the manager about compensation...chances are they will offer a few freebies or something.
