I'd also like to contribute to this thread.

I was able to play GW all summer long with no problems. Perfect connection with zero lag. Never once did I get any lag, let alone this god damn Error 7 bs.

But within I'd say the past 5-7 days, every night I try to play, is an exercise in futility. I play and all of a sudden I slow down and stop moving. None of my chat text is going through and then WHAM! Error 7. At first I thought it was my connection(because I just moved here 2 weeks ago) but I've ruled that out since clearly other people are having issues along with I can play CS and other online games just fine.

Anet or NCSoft or whoever is responsible for the servers:

FIX THIS CRAP!!!

For me the problem seems to be getting worse. I lagged out FIVE TIMES last night. I had countless lag spikes, some of them minutes long. In one group I was in, somebody complained of lag, then half of the group dropped.

I'm still waiting on a reply to the PingPlotter results I sent them yesterday. Maybe they're starting to realize...that maybe it is something besides us and our PCs causing it?

For what it's worth, an update on my error7s:

I live on the east coast of the US and typically play from 9pm to midnight Eastern time.

Before late last week, I very rarely have gotten error7s. Maybe one per 2 months. I've been playing since Prophecies pre-release.

Between roughly the 24th and the 28th, I started getting roughly one err7 per 45-60m.

On the 25th (Tues), I had no err7s and played 3 hours straight.

Last night, on the 26th (Wed), I had two err7s in the span of 30 mins and gave up for the night in frustration.

During most of this time I was playing with a friend from the west coast of the US and he only had one err7 during that whole time (and when we both got back, local chat indicated that everyone had gotten dumped).

When my err7s happen, I'm still able to converse fine via Teamspeak with my west coast friend with no lag or drops. I've had no major hardware or driver changes in the past 2 months.

*Adds to the list

Lag has gotten worse over the past few weeks, peeking today at dropping about once every twenty minutes, this is seriously frustrating. I wanted to get every character finished through factions in the next few days, now i cant even get one character through one mission.

I always had a genuine good faith in you Anet but the servers are turning into that of WoW quality. Please fix this soon, I cant handle the sudden withdrawl from hardcore online gaming!

/cry

Edit for spelling

from what i've seen and what they're saying on the other sites, this isn't an Anet server problem. somewhere between us and Anet packets are getting dropped...so we need to give Anet the information they need to know where its getting lost.

Here's my two cents:

I play on the East Coast as well. Recently I downgraded my graphics driver to 81.95 (Nvidia) since the one I had caused some visual issues in Guild Wars. I haven't had lag issues all summer, until recently. I've been getting Error 7s quite often, but mainly only when I go afk, and when I return. I can't do running on my ranger without running into the "Slow down and eventually stop moving" lag, lag spikes, skill delay, and all that! I had lag, and the next thing I know, I'm at the res shrine with 15% DP, and a ton of "-25"s flew out of me. It seems I can go 6-12 minutes before having any lag issues, however. I have had no problems with lag in towns.

This is what we get when ANet runs off to make a bunch of pointless PvP events that I'm NEVER GOING TO ATTEND BECAUSE I PLAY PVE!

This sucks, seeing how I go back to school in exactly a week and would like to get my ele through Maguuma, and improve some exploration titles before school starts.

Well I got my reply from support today. Don't bother screwing with your modem or router or graphic card...

Quote:
Hello Steve,

The Limelight network is receiving massive amounts of packet loss and there are many customers experiencing this issue from the Limelight service. We are gathering information and investigating the situation and will let you know as soon as we find out more. Although it is not on our network, we might be able to contact Limelight and see if they can resolve their issue. I also advise that you contact your Internet Service Provider to see if they could contact the Limelight network on your behalf.

Regards,

Glad to see they came to the same conclusion me and a friend did.

Here are the network traces i was doing the other day while i was discussing the problems with a friend.

Crappy HTML just for expessing my hunch to a friend.

http://nemon.myby.co.uk/gwproblems/guildwars.html

As you can see i started to notice timeouts on the llnw(LimeLight Networks) routers which coincided with the lag and err7s, but i wasnt able to replicate those results perfectly so just left it at that.

I did notice 1-2% packet loss to that router aswell.

My solution to the lag problem - disconnect my router with cable modem straight to network card. Since I have made the change -- NO LAG at all. I feel this sucks since now I have no firewall.

I did update the router's firmware which was two years old, but it did not help. I am assuming the Internet is getting old as more and more people are using it, something needs to take place to improve infra-structure or we are all about to get screwed.

This makes no sense. My connection has been improved over the last 5 years.....my cable modem is about 5 years old as well, never a problem or a hicup, it only gets faster as they increase our bandwidth. If your internet works fine with your PC, there should be no reason it won't work with a router that is functioning properly. The only thing that would prohibit connections would be if you had certain ports blocked. Perhaps you need to check and ensure your router has the correct configuration, especially if you upgraded the firmware, it will have set all your settings back to factory default in most cases.

I guess some big chunk of the trace is down.
I experience a packet loss rougly 10% which may ocurr at anytime. Most of the time the gw packet system manages to completely issolate that issue but sometimes it overwhelms and becomes non playable. Your hero stops, all enemy heroes stop. 10 seconds later the game trys to show all things that happened - you see 12312321 dmg numbers while ressurecting somewhere.

Also I can see the packet loss when I use the - image command. The download goes from 64 kb (my limit) down to 0 for several seconds.

I sent a ticket about the issue, maybe some Anet tech dude will find out is the problem somewhere in the trace (about the loss) or somewhere else.

Since last tuesday (November 7), I've been getting an insane amount of error7's. I got 8(!) just today and it's impossible for me to do anything.

I don't know if tuesday's update has anything to do with it, but I've never had an err7 before.

In the future, if you reply, try to inclue a little information on your connection & equipment, that may help narrow down the problem. I know at one time several Verizon customers had problems due to 15min DHCP leases. Maybe it's something similar.

I've only gotten 1 or 2 disconnects since Halloween....and no or none to my memory before that....

My friend keeps having trouble with the err7's and he's on RR. I'll try to find out what other gear he has between his modem & pc.
