According to various speed tests, I can download at an average 350 KB/sec, but when downloading on Guild Wars, the speeds are between 1 and 20 KB/sec

Any ideas on how to correct this?

One thing is, although you can download at that speed, if the guildwars server is overloaded, it wont able to send as fast as you are capable of downloading

The server must always be overloaded then, my GW speeds are always the same

GW is almost always overloaded at new updates. They tend not to be too big so it's ok. When I restarted playing GW was just before the NF preview event and I had to d/l every update I needed to play the game at all at ~ 5 kbps... not nice.

Due to the shear number of players within Guild Wars there will be a bit of slowdown when getting updates. The servers have to allocate who gets the downloads at what speeds. If they gave someone the fastest that you can take, the server would run out of bandwidth real quick, so it is regulated. I have found that at certian times I can get real fast DL speeds, but at others it can be at a snails pace. It all depends on the number of other players on at the time you are on.
