Default Framerates

I've been looking through the threads and I cant find anything useful

I'm running
AMD 64 X2 3800+
1.5GB Ram
Virtual ram is on my 10K Scsi
ATi Radeon X1950 Pro

I'm getting frame rates in the 25's with settings at auto detect.
I've read threads wehre people have said tehy are getting really heigh framerates with an X800, with nearly everything on Max.
Wheras mine are really low. I was getting about the same speed before I upgraded my graphics card from an nvidia Geforce 6600.
Using the -dx8 tag causes framerates between 28 and 40fps which seems absurdly low for such a system.
I'm able to play other games such as Rise and Fall, and Need for Speed carbon on max settings and still get good framerates above the 30's.
I only get descent framrates when the polycount is less than about 90,000 which looks low to me

I used to use a 6200 oc, now I use 7800 gs oc with a little extra oc, no difference in this game, other games have way improved, must be the way this game was designed for lower end pc's, maybe. Also at max settings I get 20-25~.

Whoa.. That's really low for your system. You may want to try running the October release of DirectX and using the Omega Drivers for your video card instead of the ATI drivers. Just look up Omega Drivers on Google. They're custom build drivers that offer some room for tweaking the system.

Athlon64 3200+ 'Venice' @ 2.6GHz
2GB Mushkin PC3200
6600GT 256MB PCI-e

1280x960 with 4x AA and 8x Ansio at max settings I get anywhere between 60-100fps depending on what's happening onscreen, although in Kamadan it does drop to around 45-50 but I guess that's down to Nightfalls new bumpmapped textures and other eye candy.

GW is weird, I had it running on lowest graphics with some lag, I tried it out on near highest graphics without lag... I've heard other people getting the same result. Perhaps try it?

He has a dual core 64 bit processor, there is no mention of the use of 64bit XP,

Personally I would do the following,

1, update motherboard drivers

2, direct x

3, graphics driver (Omega, are good), but normal cataylst's should be fine

Also, are any of the previously mentioned drivers a beta version? That could be the problem. I stay away from beta drivers myself, and use "established" versions only, except in very rare cases.

Setting everything to the lowest possible can result in a lower framerate. Reason for this is the textures are left in an uncompressed/unfiltered form to decrease cpu usage but results in more ram and video card ram being used. Figured that out a long time ago on quake 3 with the r_texturemode command. Lowest setting was 20-30 fps while second to highest setting was 50-60 fps.

X800 XTPE/Athlon64 3000+ at 1280x960, all graphics options maxed.

Getting 30(crowded towns) - 120 fps in Prophecies and 20(crowded towns like Kamadan and Sunspear Sanctuary first few days) - 80 fps in Nightfall, so there is some drop in fps for Nightfall probably due to improved graphics, though I can't really tell the difference.

OP should be getting better considering newer hardware.

Hmmm..

What is your GPU/case temp? There is a possibility of it thermal throttling to compensae for overheating...

The x1950 Pro has a smaller heatsink, and needs more fresh case air to breathe. Try that first, then report back with motherboard model and case and I'll tell you further if I can.

Also, what other programs do you have running?

Using latest ATI catalyst drivers
I'm in Ascalon city.
Getting about 30-35 fps average.
Between 40 and 28 .
It's stil morning so there aren't many people in the ascalon.
Left it standing in 1 direction looking over the city and getting between 28-31.
Turned off all things like AA etc. in my Catalyst control panel.
Just turned off cool n quiet
I am using XP64.
My CPU usage is about 75 - 79% when the game is in focus
CPU Temp 47C which is normal when in game. It idles around 28C. The heatsink runs at 60% until it reaches 50C
My GPU is at 52C. It reaches about 64C on nfs carbon, probably a bit more or about 70C when running the ATI Assasin demo. It's never been hot enough for me to hear the fan (got it on last wednesday). The only time I hear the fan is on startup.
I can't remember what my case is called
http://www.lightblog.com/member/gege...s/pc_scale.jpg
Got an 8cm on the side and on top.
And theres a 12cm in the front (extracting air from hard drive area)
And theres a 12cm in the back (extracting air around the CPU)
When I got this case my CPU & GPU idle (at the time Geforce 6600) dropped about 7C
I was getting similar framerates with my geforce 6600.
Right now I have open and
firefox
AMD cool n quiet dashboard
In the system tray
avast!
xfire
java update
quicktime
apache (mysql & php)

56 processes alltogether
