Default Game crash after logon before character select?

Hey all,

This started on Tuesday (Halloween). After I load up Guild Wars, which seems to go fine, and login the game halts. The music still plays but the animation on the background stops and nothing happens. Windows reports that Guild Wars is "Not Responding". This happens right after logging in and before the character select screen comes up. I did see that in the upper right corner (before logging in) I have the lightning bolt and what I am guessing is a download.

Is anyone else running into this problem?

Yes, i had this problem about a month ago. I submitted a support ticket to Anet. They didn't do crap to help. Problem went away after i did a LOT of things, so i don't specifically know what the problem is. In fact, i had tried logging into other accounts of mine which worked JUST fine! It was just that single account login made my game crash! Methinks server side error at that point.

These last 2 days, a month later, i have this same EXACT problem. I will lay out for you my actions last time and this time and the facts i now know of this problem. However, i am still locked out of GW...

A month ago when i first experienced this i thought it was a problem with the files on my PC specifically the GW.Dat file which holds all relevant data to recall account info from GW servers. So i reinstalled the game COMPLETELY, meaning i not only reinstalled the game for 2 chapters but also had to download all files since release (numbered over 80k files).

AFter all that, i started GW as normal and attempted to login. STILL froze the game. So then i thought i maybe needed to decompress additional files that my PC downloaded. I used the *.exe modifier "-image" which forces your GW.EXE to download and decompress ALL GW files up to current date.

After thousands of other files downloaded or decompressed, i again tried to login. Same problem, game froze. Finally i gave up. Sent in a support ticket to Anet support and walked away. Many hours later was asked by them to submit a data report of system specs and performance through the DirectX utility. I did this, and did not get any response.

3 hours later i tried to login to GW. BAM it worked. Still no response from Anet Support. To this day i have no idea if my previous actions were the fix or if Anet fixed it.

Same issue these last 2 days. HOWEVER, one difference is all account logins i attempt to use also freeze the game.

Things i have established::

- File downloads during login screen are not associated with this problem
- If you can login under a different account without incident, then it is server side error for the account in question
- Data corruption is not likely since the GW.EXE fill initiates without problem.
- The fact that actual LOGIN causes the crash, also suggests server side error
- This problem has made playing GW a chore for me, and thinking of quitting (LoL, more of a commmentary then observation eh?)

So i hope the steps i told you that i took the first time can help with your problem. I do realize that this is quite a late response for a thread made half a month ago, but this is the FIRST post i have seen that reports the exact same incident. I just hope more people who also experience this start to speak up cause im am utterly convinced it is somehow Server side error.

PLEASE ANYONE HELP, i have submitted ANOTHER support ticket, but i don't expect anything to be solved by them. I have tried everything that i have done the first time and am almost at the breaking point and am considering simply walking away. ANYONE know of a solution of this error PLEASE PLEASE speak up!

cheers.

I've had the same problem. Mine isn't exactly consistant though. It's more sparatic. It will work sometimes, then not.

I've submitted tickets also....nothing has helped so far.

I would love to hear an answer if someone has a good idea.
