Angry GW keeps crashing my modem...

For about a week now, Guild Wars has been restarting my modem every ~20 minutes. When I say restart, I mean it turns off and all the little connection lights (sending, recieving, online, etc.) have to take their slow @ss time in turning on again.

Obviously this causes a game disconnect, and it comes up as an error 007. I always thought 007 errors were usually caused by the player's connection having a little burp, but in my situation GW is the only thing that crashes my connection. When I'm using other games or websites my connection is fine.

Any ideas on what the problem is, and how I can fix it?

Thanks,
-Bacon

It sounds as if your modem is losing synch and having to re-synch again. I'd contact your ISP and see if anyone else is experiencing it.

Another thing to try is restart your modem if it is DSL or Cable. Just unplug it for around 30 or more seconds then plugit back in. What you are doing is dumping the memory in your modem that over time can cause connection issues when it gets overly full. I have to do this myself about once a month, and it cures all my connection issues.

I'm also gonna have to say this sounds like a line synchronization problem. If you have DSL, then it's most likely a problem with your phone line itself. There was also a time where I blamed GW for "disconnecting" me ( ) but it turned out that my DSL modem was aging and my internal phone wiring wasn't all that great. So after finding this out, I called my ISP to replace my modem and I spent a few days fixing the phone wiring around the house until the synch rates (you can find your synch rates in most new DSL modems these days) were within range for me to keep my connection.

Of course, if you have cable, please disregard all of what I said above.

This is for those on dial up. Another cause of disconnects is call waiting. If someone tries to call you when you are online that can kick you offline. call your isp to find out how to disable this for when you want to play video games as it can be different for different phone service providers.
For DSL users replace the DSL filter that you have inline between your computer and your phone jack. If you have not got a DSL filter go out and get one. The noise from any phone on your line can also kick your connection into losing sync.

Hope these help.
