Chris Lyon82,

How does that SLI 6600GT set up perform? How does that compare to lets say 1 6800GT or Ultra? I figure you have double the ram from two cards, but is it really any faster?

I looked into it before i bought them, either get 1 6800gt or 2 6600gt's an save some money. At the time I decided on 2 6600's as I heard they would of been better, but since then Ive seen proof that the 6800gt performs ever so slightly better, plus you can always upgrade by buying another.

If I was to do buy em again id save up that bit more an buy the 6800gt, but for value for money there probably the same.

Oh yeah, the 6600gt only has 128mb ram while the 6800gt has 256mb and Ive never ran them not in Sli mode so I couldnt tell you if there is a big difference (all though now Im tempted to find out)

Ohh...okay! I didn't think that the 6600GT would only have 128megs. So by sharing two of them you get a total of 256megs. And that is cheaper then one 6800GT? Or cheaper then one 6800 ultra?

I had something simlular years ago with a Voodoo 2 12meg 3D card. You could put two of them in a box and connect them. I bought one thinking I'll get another one later. (They were $150.00 each) Never did, by that time 32meg video cards were hitting the scene. So I bought a new Dim 4100 and got the Geforce 2 Pro 32meg card. AGP slots were new then too. My old Voodoo 2 was a simple PCI slot card.

I have this set up now for about 3 months and at the time it was cheaper to get 2 6600 gts than one 6800gt. The ultras are dearer than the Gt's. Just checked the website that I bought them of and there now not selling the asus 6600gt or asus 6800gt, looks like technologys moved on already with the 7 series.

hehe.. i remember when i got give a voodoo 2, i thought it was the best thing ever at the time

AMD A64 3000+
768MB of RAM
ATI r9600xt

I'd like to upgrade the video a bit but ATI doesn't have anything out for agp in the medium price range and I can't force myself to buy an NVidia card.

AMD Athlon 3000+ (can't remember the thing's actual frequency)
1 Go PC3200 DDR
240 Go RAID1 SATA HD(s)
GeForce 6600 (plain), 128 Mo (bought it cheap 3 months ago)

Nothing fancy, pretty much a low end setup by now, but at least it's silent. GW runs smooth at 50 fps, 1280x960x32 with anti-aliasing. What more do I need

well....

AMD64 3200+ (Venice) w/ XP-90
MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum Ult 250
500w Blue Storm
2x512 400(pc3200) Mushkin
BFG 6800 GT OC
Soundblaster Audigy 2 w/ Sen HD 212 Pros && AL MX5021
Saitek Eclipse Keyboard, Razer DB Plasma LE, fUnc sUrface
X-Dreamer II case, Hauppauge Win TV Go, 21" IBM P260

And um... think thats about it. Usually run the venice ~2.2 or 2.4ghz depending on how hot ambient is. I havnt found a game running the 6800gt faster makes a difference in yet so i just leave [email protected] usually. I run on 1280x1024 on desktop for easy alt/tabbing to irc/aim usually; and never notice an fps drop with settings jacked. I cant complain; but getting new case and ram some point this semester

Intel P4 3.0E Prescott (overclocked to 3.46)
Thermaltake P4 Spark7+ Cooling Fan
Gigabyte GA-8IPE100G Motherboard
2 x Crucial 512mb PC3200
Western Digital Caviar SE 160GB ATA150 HD
Samsung Spinpoint P Series 120GB ATA150 HD
GeForce FX5200 256mb DDR AGP 8x
Lite-On IDE DVD Burner +/- DL 8x
Raidmax Storm ATX Red Gaming Case
Thermaltake Silent Purepower ATX 480w PS
Logitech 5.1 Speaker System
Logitech G15 Gaming Keyboard
Logitech G5 Mouse

While I do plan on updating the graphics card and adding another gig of memory in the near future, this box runs any game that I have desired to play. There may be better components out there, but looking at the performance vs price, I couldn't be happier.

Totally has more overclocking capabilities than DFI believe it! ! Check it out at newegg. As a matter of fact it is kind of confusing rofl

ps lol good luck with the 8 gs of ddr2 as mentioned lol lol
