Exclamation Sony Laptop, doesn't run Guildwars well, HELP ~

My laptop is a Sony Vaio VGNS56GP
general specs:
Intel Centrino 1.86GHZ
512mb RAM
GeForce Go 6400 (128mb i think*)
Some old Nvidia drivers, I don't know where to upgrade for new "geforce Go laptop drivers"
and latest "directX 9.0c" drivers

When i play guildwars, i get A LOT of fps lag, i've tried running at lower resolutions, lowest details and windows mode but they all still seem to lag as much as my max resolution 1280x800 on medium settings.

i've tried defragmenting and i got a 1:1 ratio of file using the program from
http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...php?t=10037429
so it's not a case of heaps of files

i've also read another thread on this forum concering
-perf
-heapsize
-dx8
and -noshaders
do you think this 'might' increase my performance in playing?

coz atm it takes me QUITE awhile to load between towns and when i DO get into towns, everything disappears and takes atleast 20 seconds for my character and everyone's to load, and then another 20-30 seconds for my laptop to stop lagging everytime i turn around etc.

and when i go into fighting areas, it lags like crazy, looks like 5fps when i fight... but it seems to get better after 1 minute.

Help plz~~~~ thanks
any ideas on what i should do?

You have several options here. First go to sony's website and get the latest drivers for your laptop from them. They will have the est ones that will work with your laptop. Your video card is up to snuf for Guild Wars so that is not the problem. Upgrade from 512 megs of ram to 1 gig of ram, that will give a bit more overhead for gaming and productivity apps to play with. You did not mention what kind of connection you have. A wired is best, most wireless connections can create to much lag themselves due to hardware beign from different manufacturers. Try connecting directly to the internet to see if that helps. One more thing is most laptops do not have the processing power to run the game with a high graphics setting. Back the settings down until the game plays fine. In another post someone said to put the sond slider all the way to fastest and turn off hardware acceleration, that does work for most players.
Hope this can help out,

NOTHING to do with virus/spyware/malware or w/e
i have 512k internet, guildwars works V.WELL on my computer, it's just problem with laptops.

i've already checked sony sites ._. there seems to be no graphic card updates on their sites OR nvidia sites.... fairly gheyed

i think my only option is to upgrade to 1gb ram

Ok seems like the sony route was a dead end, after you upgrade the ram see how the game runs (should run better, also the 512 dial up can be causing lag problems although Guild Wars is supposed to work with dial-up very well). After the ram upgrade see if your laptop can handle a processor upgrade. The Centrino line are pretty much the bottom of the heap. If you can upgrade go for the best that you can afford, that should also help out a lot.

Hope you can get this fixed

i'm dead sure it's not my connection, because i'm at someones house using their internet atm and still the same problem, it's FPS lag

after looking through a few forum threads, i found out how to display fps with

-perf display fps and it shows that i have around 10-35fps.

-noshaders -dx8 and that other RAM command doesn't work... :\

looks like my only option is to upgrade ram then.. hope another 512mb stick doesn't cost over $100

thanks MegaMouse

Depending on how the ram that you have within your laptop is configured you may have to buy 2 512 sticks. Most laptops from the factory come with 2 sticks of ram already installed bringing their total to whatever they have installed (512 = 2 sticks of 256 1024 = 2 sticks of 512 and so on). You might have to get 2 sticks but for now just tr to get one and upgrade the other as money permits. Doing this will give you 768 megs of ram and should even then give a performance boost. One thing that I forgot to mention is that you should run Guild Wars at the native resolution of your laptops display. To find out what it is go to sony and find the specs on it or if you have the box the laptop came in, it may be on the side. After setting the display to its native resolution you may have to play with the ingame graphics settings to get the fps and lag problems out of the way. I have a HP DV8315nr which has a 17" wide screen monitor and I run Guild Wars at 1440x900 with the settings turned down with very few problems. Mine has an ATI Radeon Express 200m chipset with 128 megs of dedicated. Not exactly the best out there but it gets the job done.
