Question Do Gamepads work with GW?

A friend of mine bought a USB compatible gamepad and says he uses it for online games, but says it won't work with Guild Wars.

Are game pads selective in which games they will work for or not?

he probably just needs to edit the settings for the game pad. all a gamepad does is reorganize the keyboard keys into a different configuration on the controller.

The game has to be written to accept gamepads. To be honest, I see no sense in trying to play GW with a pad, as you would need to assign skills, movement (including strafing), your inventory... and if you manage to fit that all in, you still need to be able to use chat.

Both myself and my partner use a Nostromo 32 with Guild Wars. No problems.

There are several Gamepads that will work well with Guild Wars, but more that won't. You will have to pick up a keyboard emulation program then set it so it will work with Guild Wars. A friend uses his game opad for basic movement and skill usage but that is it. When in a town he switches to his keyboard.

I used to love using my trackball for WASD movement in CS.

There used to be a (free) program called joy-to-key that made any gamepad input into keyboard-strokes.
It was great for flash-games but since I have lost it & now only japanese(?) sites seem to have downloads. I guess you could try it if you ever find a download that works.
